Up early with a quick run over to Sarlat's indoor market - the Dordogne is famous for outdoor markets, but bad timing meant that I was unable to catch any of them. Nothing special, but the indoor one was a suitable alternative, given that there really were no alternatives!Back... Read Full Entry

Amboise has a nice, but boring, little pedestrian street.

Leonardo da Vinci once lived here - it was closed by the time I arrived, but I likely wouldn't have gone in had it been open.

Amboise is a nice little town, it's just that there isn't much happening here.

The hostel is located on Ile D'or, right on the river.

I started with some pretty dodgy-tasting gamay - I couldn't tell if it was corked, or just really bad. The music was no better - a Black Eyed Peas CD, and it wasn't even the good one! The pizza orientale sounded good, with lots of bell peppers, merguez sausage, and spicy sausage. The tomato sauce was sour, and the loads of bell peppers soaked the pizza as they cooked and released their juices, soggifying the thin crust (didn't think I could use soggify twice in the same blog, did you?) The flavour of the pizza was good, and the herb-infused olive oil I drizzled on top seemed to improve things further, but unfortunately, the pizza was a mess. It was too bad, because the quality of the ingredients was there, but sadly, the execution was complete trash. My other thought for a light meal was the crepe place on the plaza at the foot of the chateau, but I didn't feel like having crepes once more after having them just the other night, and I did have a craving for pizza.

Sad - I found the cool little pizza knife to be more interesting than the pizza. Always a bad sign about the food!

Earlier, I saw this guy eating on the terrace of a restaurant called Via Roma, and his food looked quite tasty - but apparently it wasn't satisfying, because as I ate, I saw him go into the kebab place across the way and grab a pastry to go. I should've done the same as him and gone there instead!

Hoping to salvage tonight's dinner with some gelato, I ended up grabbing some pre-made stuff, because the other places in town that made their own stuff only had some very dodgy-looking product on display. Mint chocolate, you can't go wrong with that!
