Amboise and Chenonceau 037
Amboise street - town clock Bonjour kids
Today we realised that we have acclimatised to the freezing temperatures. We were feeling really hot and had to take off our beanies, jackets and gloves as we were getting a bit gross and sweaty. We estimated that it must have be around 20 degrees, however upon checking the temp it was only 13.5!
We strolled into the centre of Amboise today past the troglodyte dwellings that were built into the cliff walls and made our way to the Amboise chateau. This chateau is quite different from the others as it is a bit older and less decorative. It's more medieval and has been built upon a rocky cliff, however much of it has been destroyed. A couple of the King's lived here and King Charles VIII was born here in 1483. It was then converted into a prison for high profile prisoners. Oh and Leonardo Da Vinci is buried here!
Dad actually asked one of the attendants where the secret passages were. She said she couldn't tell him as they were secret... Good call.
Chenonceau was our next stop which at one point was basically a castle for one of the King's mistresses, or
as us Tehan's prefer to call them...sluts. Today we have learnt that any so called "conjugal beds" from those times were blue. Think I may rethink the colour scheme in my bedroom...
Chenonceau is very pretty and built across the Cher river. There are moats galore here and Dad had a "moat overload". We were only able to locate one secret passage. Think we're losing our touch.
There were soooo many people here today it was ridiculous. An old lady pushed me over! Apparently it is a public holiday today and in France when they have public holidays on the Thursday they automatically get the Friday off. I'm so moving here.
Tomorrow we're off to Bordeaux to get drunk on...well Bordeaux!
Au Revoir
PS: Dad took his filming to a whole new level of boringness today. He filmed the chateau carpark.
PPS: We're all getting quite tubby. We call Mum "Full lock" as to cuddle her you have to extend your arm "full lock" instead of bending it. Dad can now only fit into his trackies (you can tell this from the photos). He even wears them out to dinner.
