Greetings from Bourdeaux;

LIZ IS SO DRUNK FROM all the red wine we have been drinking:
she actually drank some red we had with dinner last nite:

We have had 3 days of heavy travel: The car problem put our plans in disarray: We finally Got the car back at 5pm wednesday (€1000 thanks very much: you have to get reimbursed by the lease company):
We then drove to Caen only to find out on the way that the hotel had cancelled our booking: Guess what Mary and Joseph, all the inns were full in the area and we had to drive another 60k to Lisieux to get a room:
then yesterday we drove for 5 hours top get to Nantes; called in at Mont St Michel on the way: Pretty i,pressive:

THEN TODAY WE drove 4 hrs to bordeaux
we are staying at a lovely B&B on the Garonne river: Have the use of one of their living spaces: We intend doing some wineries tomorrow:

Some i,pressions of France in no particular order/
1: nost french people are nice and will help you:
2: some are very arrogant
3: driving is like a religion in France: It is taken very seriously
4: the road system is on a par with their metro: Excellent although we did pay a toll today of 25 €: still that was for about 200km
5: driving on the right is different: what is so hard to get used to is the different perspective you have in terms of your spatial perception:
6: We have had to rely upon each other a lot for support when we have had to deal with stress and local issues (like the GPS getting it wrong or trying to navigate inner cities) i think most of our stress has been car related so we will rethink for next time:
7: everything here is so old: we went to Basilique de St Denis in Paris which holds the tombs of many french kings: We stood next to the to;mb of Charles Martel who was the forebear of Charlemagne!!!!!!!!

We visited the Oz war cemetry at Villiers Brettoneux: Amazing! Grave after grave:

Liz here: I posted some postcards from Mont St Michel; some others will come from here hopefully, if I find a post office.
We are enjoying our trip, regardless of the stress of driving; it s all part of the experience. We have met some lovely people and seen some amazing things......
Love to all

PS
It has been amazingly cold here: It snowed on monday nite: Ah Paris and France in the spring:

Am still having problems finding a software program on a co,puter that will resize the photos: still i live in hope:
