Today, we board the Norwegian Star Cruise Ship. This means goodbye to the Continent of Europe. We have a total of 26 nights ahead of us on this ship. First, a 12 night cruise across the Atlantic Ocean from Copenhagen to Miami, USA with a stop off in Ponta Delgada. This is a small Portuguese island in the Atlantic, and our only stop for the first cruise leg. This will finally give us a chance to rest, relax, hit the gym and reflect on the trip to date. After 12 nights, we will change cabins in Miami for the second leg of the cruise. This will be 14 nights via Columbia, the Panama canal, Costa Rica and Mexico, finishing up in Los Angeles. We've got some pretty cool stuff planned for this cruise, snorkeling, beaches, safaris and Mayan temples. In LA, we will have our final 4 nights at the Hollywood Hotel. In our 3 days here, we've got day trips to Disneyland Anaheim and Universal Studios booked. On 31 October, we will fly home from LA direct to Melbourne, arriving at 10am Saturday November 2, over 6 months after our departure.
By the time we are home we will
have circumnavigated the entire planet, exploring 33 countries on all 7 continents.
**For the last month, or at least next two weeks, it is unlikely much (if anything) will appear on this blog. We will be at sea, without any Internet connection. I will write journal entries when appropriate, and probably upload them/ update the blog from Los Angeles, or when I get home in Australia. Its been an amazing trip so far, and I'm looking forward to the Grand Conclusion that lies ahead. I'm not so disappointed the end is in sight. I feel already, the trip has been a huge success. Its been a great experience, but realistically, we cant go on like this forever, financially, and psychologically. After 6 months, we exhausted and have become a bit desensitized to new places. The Americas will be a refreshing location I'm sure! Rather than mope or rue the end, I'm going to take a positive approach. I'm going to get back to work, pay off our budgeted debts and look forward to the future, the next phase of my life and all the challenges and adventures ahead!
Its not always been a breeze doing this blog. To give you an idea,
each blog takes 30 to 90 minutes to write on my Samsung Note 10.1 tablet. On my tablet, I can only upload 5 pictures at at time. These have to be sorted, and transfered over from my camera. Each set of 5 photos on average takes 5 minutes. 25% of the time, a photo upload attempt fails and has to be done over. This is my 134th entry. So far 3,200 photos have been uploaded. So I calculate that at around 12,040 minutes (including 25% redo on photos), or approximately 200 hours. Given we've been gone a bit over 5 months, that's probably over an hour a day on average, no idea where I found that time. Sometimes its been frustrating, exhausting and a chore. Ive felt like its pointless or just not continuing with it. However now, I'm so glad I did. Its an awesome souvenir, and vivid reminder of this experience. Its also been a great way to share the experience with friends and family. I wish I could show so many people these places but the blog will have to do.
At least, until I can tell you all first hand in November. Until then, Ive got a ship to catch and more countries to see! Pause, for now.
