0600hrs: Up and peering out of our windows towards the fountain. Yet another batch of South East Asian Tourists snap away at each other.......weather.......looking OKish.
TODAY WE TAKE THE BUS TO CESKY KRUMLOV!: " CeskyWhatlov" you ask?.........well it is billed as The Venice of The Czech Republic......and were are well prepared for whatever it has to offer. Yesterday afternoon we rehearsed the route to the bus station and this morning we are catching the bus (Stand 2) to said destination...!
Just to recap we spent yesterday afternoon tramping around the cobbled streets of our "hometown".....dinner was at a "local establishment" run by a young couple who had been bankrolled by their parents. A great little place that will unfortunately face financial ruin unless they can jettison the "hanger on relative types".............swigging free beer and getting "loud/dancing with each other" in the corner. Just what you need when you are trying to set up in business are pi$%he&d friends drinking the profits dressed in shorts and singing Czech folk songs......!
The food was fantastic......
IT"S TOO CHEAP!!!!!! I cannot believe it..... Our 45 minutes bus ride this morning was on an air-con new luxury coach....with leather seats.......LCD TV in the front of you.....free water......a
Stewardess who looked like she had just finished a shift at Goldfingers Nightclub in Prague (another story) and an albeit useless but free newspaper (apart from the pictures).....all for £1.20......In Epsom, I pay £5 to get 1.5 miles from the Station home in a rattly minicab.
At a distance, Cesky Krumlov is so picturesque, it makes the Castle in Disneyland look like Milton Keynes on a bad day.....moats.......castles with draw bridges.......cobbled streets that lead to more mediaeval squares...yet more more castles and ancient town scape........BUT.........it's stuffed with more tacky tourist tat than anywhere we have EVER been. How about the "GENUINE" Ye Olde Bohemian Ginger Bread Shop for instance.........or the shop next door selling "Crimbo Decs" to unsuspecting Japanese tourists...or worse still bottles of "fighting plonk" costing no more than 2 euros a bottle in the local ALDI being packaged up in "crinkly cellophane" and being "knocked" out at 10 euros to unsuspecting punters.
We retreat to the "locals' restaurant" feeling smug..........safe in the knowledge that nobody could possibly mistake us for "TOURISTS"........
THE SELFIE STICK! As we cross the first draw bridge a young lady from a "far off SE place"......is busy taking selfies at every opportunity using this gadget. More sighting
of this hugely annoying appendage abound..........
We decide to head back to base camp...........where the ever faithful "NEDDY" is waiting for us ............we head out to a nearby town called TEBON some 12 miles East. This is the "real" Bohemia......locals doing "rustic" locally things.....
Trebon is famous for fish and its Brewey..
www.pivovar-regent.cz
We stock up on this "hallowed brew" and head off to the local supermarket for more supplies of vino - vodka - sausage etc...........by this time there is much 'clinking noises" from the rear of Neddy.....the seats are down and he is beginning to strain under the weight of yet more bottles!!
......It's now 0715 Wednesday: up and ready for our drive into the Sumava mountains. This is a semi-mountainous and forested region that forms a natural barrier between The Czech Republic, Germany and Austria. It was closed off during the Cold War and is now a UNESCO "biosphere"...........report to follow....

Hey chaps-sounds like you're having smashing time in Czech republic. You simply can't tell me that you're not tempted by the selfie stick, well I wish you were. At least I would start to actually see photos of you two in these places you
talk about. Hmmmm, that's a point; how do I really know you've been/are there and you're not just sitting in Epsom, reading someone else's blog and passing it off as your own. So come on-let's see some real Hillman pics! By the way, how did the Czech republic do in the last World Cup?
