It is a long way up
Some of the subway lines run very deep underground -- like this one at the Mustek station. A week or so before we left home to come to Prague we saw a program on public TV about the Plitvice region of Croatia. The scenery was absolutely stunning. We had never heard of the area. Rather than use the word over Platvice over and over the narrator called this region the area of the falling lakes. As we watched the program we said to each other, "We have just got to go there while we are in Prague." Rather than my trying to describe this area do a search on Plitvice, Croatia and look at some of the pictures.
Anyway, Bill's sister, Dot, is coming for a visit. "This is the time we should go to Plitvice and take her along," Nancy said.
I agreed and off I headed downtown to find a travel agent that would have tours of the region. I was given the names and approximate location of two travel agencies. I had no problem finding the office of either agency.
The first agency has tours, but they do not begin until June. That is too late as Dot will be here from May 10 until May 24. I looked at the literature,
but as it was all in Czech it didn't help me much ... well truthfully not at all.
I went to the second agency and basically ran into the same problem as far as tours were concerned. I was not particularly disappointed. A tour makes travel easy, but the down side is if I find something that is really interesting I am on their time schedule and often cannot stay as long as I would like. This was a big agency. I saw they have train reservation desks, bus reservation desks, hotel reservation desks, airplane reservation desks and desk that I have no idea what kind of reservations they make. This reminded me of China where in the big city post office you go to one window to buy stamps, you go to another window to mail packages, you go to another window to mail letters, you ...... well you get the idea.
I returned to the seminary and made the final decision on what days we want to go to Croatia. The helpful people at reception worked their magic and gave me the train schedule.
So today I went downtown and made all the reservations, both
train and hotel. We will leave Prague in the evening on May 11. The first leg of our trip will take us to Salzburg, Austria. There we change trains to one that will go across Austria, then across Slovania and finally into Croatia. We will arrive in Zagreb about eight-thirty. There are hourly buses from Zagreb to Plitvice and we will catch the first one we can.
We will return on May 15, arriving in Prague about ten in the morning. Both ways we will be traveling all night and fortunately, except for one short leg of the return trip, we will be in sleeping cars.
On the subway coming back to IBTS I saw an amusing incident, at least it was amusing to me. Acoss the car an attractive young woman was reading a magazine. Her seat faced the back. Facing her, their knees pointing toward each other, was a rather seedy looking old man. He had a suitcase sitting beside him that looked as seedy as he. He said something to her and if my reading of body language is right she did not welcome his words. She went back to reading her magazine. Slowly he

This brought a response that definitely showed irritation. She then continued reading her magazine. I was somewhat surprised that she did not get up and move to another seat. The rest of the trip I watched to see if he would risk another advance and if her response would be a hard smack of her magazine over his head. But, no such excitement happened. He was a good boy the rest of the trip.
