Day 22

It was a very long and difficult day. As I mentioned before there are places we are not allowed to take our car and the Czech Republic i sone of those places. So instead of taking the 4 houtr drive from Bratislava to Prague it was a 1 hour train ride from Bratislava to Vienna. PIck up the car drive around the circumference of the Czech Republic until we get to Dresden, an 8.5 hour drive and then a 2.5 hour train into Prague.

My insticts told me to cancel this portion of the trip and just hang out a couple extra days in Germany, but Sydeny is such a trooper and told me we needed to go because I wanted to visit Prague so much, so we are now in Prague. We left Bratislava at 7:45am and arrived in Prague at 11:45 PM. The hotel I booked does not have 24 hour recpetion (booo) and as such we did not get into the hotel that we booked. We had the cab bring us to another hotel. The plan was two spend 2 days in Prague so we will have all of tomorrow to visit the city. Assuming we can get back to the original hotel, who sends me emials 16 hours before check in about the check in rules and then does not respnd to emails back in a timely manner.

In any case it was a very uneventful and exhasting day. Nothing very interesting to talk about. The only real excitment was when we got to the new hotel and I was paying for the room she punched the amount in to the machine and the hotel was 1515 Czeck Kroners. I had no idea how much that was. She did not speak very good english and could not tell me the exchange rate on any currency. SO I put my pin in and hoped it was not 1515 Euros, or dollars. Turns out it is like 75 bucks Canadian so all is good. A little research before hand might have been useful. I am hopeful that tomorrows blog will be filled with much more interesting information about what I have heard is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Prague
We were in Prague just after the wall came down and still remember it as one of the most beautiful cities we have ever been to. Everything at that time was very cheap, including eating out. Caution - do not buy their chocolate. We bought chocolate bars and ours had pieces of aluminimum foil bedded into it along with a couple of paper clips! Their santitation rules on food prep are a little different than ours. Try to get to the Jewish musuem beside the Jewish cementary. The artwork from the children of the concentration games will leave you wih a vivid picture of life in a camp as seen through the eyes of children. On your way back to get your car, visit Dresden, another beautiful city and try and see the wall. The artistry of it is beautiful. Enjoy!
