Lake Bled
Relaxing at the gorgeous Lake Bled. Hello everyone!
I am writing to you from the cosy basement internet room of a Czech-cafe in Prague, or as the locals call it, Praha. What makes it even more cosy is that 4 of my friends from our tour have joined me, and when we bought our hot chocolates and cakes the internet was free! Unlimited yea 😊
Prague is absolutely gorgeous. Very 'old town' is all I can think of when I look around, but with a classy edge and spacious feel. Everywhere you look there is Bohemian Crystal, the Czech-equivalent of Swarvoski. It's quite reasonable too! Prague is also popular for it's marionette puppets, also very reasonable. There are quite a few 'odd' sights mixed in with the mainstream though; such as the 'Sex Machine Museum', 'Torture Device Museum' and 'Barbie Exhibition (the toy)'. The churches are very gothic, with lots of skeleton sculptures and dark colours.
We spent the morning on a walking tour with our tour leader and then grabbed lunch at 12 and have been shopping ever since! I bought a comfy pair of three-quarter black cropped pants as it's been raining the last two days and my jeans are getting dirty
Salzburg
The cemetary where the Von Traps hid from the Nazis in 'The Sound of Music'. argh. I have bought almost everything on my wish list except for a handbag - with leather being cheaper here in Europe it's the last thing I need to buy. I'm so glad, I am
almost over shopping...can you believe it? Tonight most people are going to the massive nightclubs but I've decided I would rahter spend the money for drinks on souvenirs - they're such awesome quality in this city.
The last two days, since Croatia when I last touched base, I have been to two countries - Slovenia and Austria.
I didn't know what to expect from Slovenia, being quite a small country and relatively unknown. We went to it's capital city, Ljbuljana, which I affectionately nicknamed 'LJ'. Well it was one of the most beautiful cities I've visited. So clean and tidy, green and lush, warm and inviting! Every street was lined with cafes and restaurants dimly lit with candles and overflowing with ambience. There was a good mix of fashionable boutiques and funky home-made markets - we also did a lot of knick-knack shopping there. We were unfortunately only there for a one night stop-over and those few hours were are only in LJ
Prague
A stunning church in Prague. 😞
The next morning we headed to Austria via Lake Bled, still in Slovenia, which was a huge and very serene natural lake with a beautiful church in the center. I couldn't help but sit on the grass and relax as the white swans and oak row boats floated over the lake...it was a great place to relax and unwind in the middle of our busy journey.
That night we arrived in Salzburg, Austria; the home of The Sound of Music. I wasn't very impressed with Salzburg as the city seemed rather dirty and dingy with the people not being very friendly at all. No warm cafes or atmosphere like Slovenia -- for a Wednesday night there was hardly anyone around at all! However, I did enjoy seeing the cemetary where the Von Traps hide from the Nazis as well as other various sights...and tasting Mozart Balls! Don't laugh 😊 They're a very popular chocolate ball here with a little marzipan in the center...I may have bought some for a Marzipan lover in our family 😊 Aside from those points, I was glad it was only a one-night stop-over in Austria also. I must say though, the food
Czech Crystal
Inside one of the many crystal shops in Prague - gorgeous and SO affordable! was very welcomed - hearty meat and potatoes, beef goulash and the like - very satisfying indeed!
Tomorrow we leave for Berlin and something I'm very much looking forward to - visiting the world-renowned zoo! I'm doing that on my own time and probably by myself...which is probably a good thing because as you all would know I tend to squeal alot around cute animals!
Anyway, I best be off - lots more to see in Prague! I will talk soon, hopefully in Amsterdam in a couple of days xx miss you! Lots of love, Alyse-Grace
