Rub for good luck! So we didn't do much yesterday before the bike tour. Just people watched and showed Gina some of the town.
The bike tour, Praha Bike, started at 5:30pm. There were only 7 of us. My group of 5 and 2 girls from Minnesota/Chicago. They had also came over from Munich so we shared Oktoberfest stories.
The tour started out rough. We all got ponchos because it started to drizzle. David, our tour guide, took us over the river and made us carry our bikes up a few flights of stairs. Not fun. We were all winded only 10 minutes into the tour!
Poor Gina hasn't ridden on a bike for a while and was not understanding the bike gears and therefore was peddling really fast and not getting anywhere. She ended up walking her bike up the hill and said she wanted to quit. She was miserable and didn't want to continue to hold up the group. David was not real happy, but he took her back to the starting point and we waited in a cute beer garten. Let me just throw it out there that Gina was smart to call it quits because this was the
hardest "leisurely bike tour" I've ever been on. Lots of incline. My legs are sore.
David was a fantastic tour guide. He told stories of different Prague sites like he was letting us in on a secret. Very informative, but his accent was a little difficult to follow. Some of the times we just smiled and nodded! 😊
A few highlights of our 3 hour bike tour.....
There are these metal statues of two men peeing in front of the Kafka Museum. Their waists move and they piss the letters of messages anyone can call this phone number and request their message to be written! I don't have the details of this statue in hand, but it was crazy. We were trying to read the letters they were peeing. These people have weird senses of humor. 😊
There was a flood in Prague in 2002 and they marked a few walls to indicate how far under water the city was. Very scary.
We were able to write on the John Lennon wall! I was sweet to Greg and referenced Lennon's song... All I need is (Greg's) love. 😊
Greg wrote Happy Birthday Dad! (Happy Birthday Dick!!
Hope it was a good one!)
There is also a romantic side of Prague. Near this water mill, there are a ton of locks hanging on the gate. Apparently you are supposed to come there with your love, put a lock on the gate and throw away the key. That will mean you will live happily ever after. Our guide said he has a lock with 5 keys! haha There were also combination locks on there! Not the same.
After the bike tour was over, we met back up with Gina at this traditional Czech Restaurant for a Czech specialty meal. It seems the Czech like to cover food items in potato pancake and fry it. I had chicken breast that was covered in potatoes and fried. Greg had bleu cheese that was covered in potatoes and fried. Pretty good.
The pub crawl was next and we didn't last long. We only made it to 2 bars and decided to call it quits. Frank went up to the 2nd floor WC and Gina bought the "last round", and we got some beer and wine for the condo and went home and played gin rummy. Frank won this
time.
Today we have some final sites to see by foot, then we'll get on a boat and have dinner while enjoying Prague at night by water. 😊
We take off really early tomorrow and land in Miami around 2-3pm.
I will put the final entry on sometime this weekend (probably).
Go Buckeyes!
