Hey folks!
I am writing this blog from the middle of nowhere on the west coast of Ireland. We are still very late, but we should catch up in the next days. Wien was as it is described by most travellers, great Renaissance buildings, nice museum, great music and good beer.
We slept four nights in Wien, but only spend three days there. On our second day we did a day trip to Munich for the Oktoberfest. I will talk about it in the next blog. In the train we met an American who was completely lost and we try to help him out by finding him a bed for the night in Wien. To give you an idea of how lost he was, he took the train to Wien only to discover that his plane was not flying out of Wien the next morning, but from Bratislava, the destination he just left.
On our first day, we walk with the American guy, Forest, and one of his friends. We walk from the Westbahnoff to the historic centre. We then enjoy a lot of beers in a small local pub. The nest day was the Oktoberfest day. On
our third day, we had to change hostel and we then walk on the main shopping street until we reach the museum neighborhood again. We walk in the great park, saw the cathedral and the opera. It was also the world animal day. Around the church there were all kinds of animals, mostly dogs, but also goats, pigs, etc. Apparently the priest really like animals and was blessing them that day. The police were also showing how good their dogs are.
The last day was the best one by far. We walked to the royal palace (it looks like a smaller Versaille). I was not really in to it at the beginning. Chloe is a huge fan of Sisi, I am not really. However. The castle was fantastic. We visit more than 40 rooms with an audio-guide explaining what the rooms used to be used for and also visit the private garden, the glory monument and the maze. I love the maze even if it is a bit kiddish. It was very laid-back and even difficult. I really recommend to anyone going to Wien to visit this beautiful palace.
Wien is a nice city to visit. I like
it a lot, but the train ride from it to Munich is stunning. I would love to visit the small towns in the Alpes or Salzbourg. We will write about our week in Bavaria soon and Chloe will write something about Wien too.
Cheers,
Nick
Hostel: Wien: Wombats the base: Nice staff, next to the train station. Really a party hostel.
Wien: Wombats the lounge: You have all the base is offering, but in better. The bar is great and the staff too. You have a full equip kitcheen and the rooms are great.
