Fun in Vienna!

Vienna was the second of our 2 "we don´t have a hotel yet" stops... and we probably ended up with one of the nicest hotels we´ve had so far and it was also one of the cheapest. 😊 Score!!!

Our time in Vienna was different from our other stops because we took the days to do "kid" stuff. We started with a trip to Stephansdom (St. Stephan's Cathedral) which is the center of town and saw the Staatsoper (State Opera House), Keith had a lunch of Weiner Schnitzel and Gosser beer (I tried to have Apple Strudel there, but they said they were out!), then we headed over to the famous Sacher Cafe for a Sacher Torte (chocolate). After that the real fun began...

We started our tour with a trip to the House of Music, which is a really neat music museum that reminded us of the interactive science museums that you go to as a kid. They had neat interactive exhibits like composing your own music with everyday sounds, conducting an orchestra, and learning about how sound/hearing works. The also had exhibits which explained the history of famous classical musicians such as Mozart, Strauss, and Beethoven. We took the u-bahn to a park that ran along the famous Blue Danube. After strolling up and down the Danube a bit, we went to Prater Park which features Vienna´s famous GIANT ferris wheel (Riesenrad)! We went up in the ferris wheel which gave us an amazing view of the city, then stayed around the park which was an amusement park, and watched everyone having fun on the rides (for those of you who are familiar with the Dade County Youth Fair, this park reminded me quite a bit of that). Then on day 2 we headed to Schönbrunn Park which has a palace, a beautiful garden which reminded us of the Louvre in Paris yet even more beautiful, an area with multiple people-sized mazes, and the zoo. We had fun acting like kids getting lost in the mazes, playing the games that were sprinkled throughout the mazes, and trying to identify the animals at the zoo since all of the signs were strictly German with no English. 😊

At the end of day 2, we took probably the nicest train we´ve had so far to Linz to visit with Jürgen and Eva and to see the Austrian countryside.

One More Thing...
At the House of Music, one of the really neat exhibits that they had was a room that was setup to allow you to hear what a fetus hears in the womb. It was a really neat experience, especially given the current circumstances!!!

Hotel
We stayed at the Hotel Carlton Opera at Schinkanedergasse 4. Our reservation was made using Wien-Tourismus. They were VERY helpful and great for last minute reservations!
