After Switzerland we drove back to Germany and the Barvarian Alps. We went to the castle Neuschwanstein which looked amazing but you will have to take our word for it as our photos of it have since dissappeared into the world of 0s and 1s!

We drove through Munich (stopping in at octoberfest for a beer) to Berchtesgaden, a little part of Germany on the border with Austria and once home to members of the Nazi party and the famous kehlsteinhaus "Eagles Nest". The scenery around there was amazing although Anna would like to mention that the bus ride up to the eagles nest was scary!

From there we travelled to Salzburg, a nice Austrian town where Anna was trying to break out into Sound of music song fests! So trying to get as far away from sound of music tours and scenery i made us go to the Hangar 7, the Red Bull museum and the most amazing modern building we have come across (even Anna forgot the sound of music and was impressed). The hangar was a huge glass dome filled with Red Bull racing cars, bikes and planes etc. The most impressive part of the dome

One of the huge bends on a bobsled track near Berchtesgaden
was a bar, situated at the top of the building which was unfortunately closed as part of the glass floor was cracked!

Heading south towards Italy we went through Hallstatt, a little lakeside town where they were having what we guess must have been an autumn festival with everybody dressed in traditional clothing so like the other tourists we stood around being nosey and taking photos!

Luckily for us the road through the Hohe Tauern National Park was still open for us to drive across one of Europes most scenic alpine passes on our way south. The Hohe Tauern National Park has Austria’s highest summits, and the largest glacier areas of the Eastern Alps. There was plenty of snow about, and we even managed to spot a couple of Marmots, and a herd of Ibex!

After a day exploring some Austrian walking trails we headed to Italy.
