At the beggining of the night - Very Sober! DAY 6:
Christmas Eve! YEY! Usually this would be one of the most EXCITING nights of the year for me, i absolutely LOVE Christmas! However, this year, being in Europe and away from the fam it strangely doesnt have that christmasy ring to it. Anyways we are driving from Switzerland to Austria today, via one of the smallest countries in the world - Liechtenstein.
We enjoy another sleep in up atop the clouds and make a nice lazy start to the bus at 9am. Good bye Beautiful Swiss alps, we will miss you lots! Anyway we dont have a very long drive today however we do cross a whole country before we hit the Austrian border. Liechtenstein takes only 25mins to drive from one side to the other and is home to its very own Prince Hans. We stopped here for the dirtiest and best kebab you can buy - loads of an unrecognisable kind of meat, massive dollops of garlic, chilli and some other sauce, a scrap or 2 of lettuce, some onion if your lucky and a bit of tomato for good measure. All of this inside the biggest hamburger bun you have ever seen.. yes a

Getting right into the Christmas Spirit! hamburger bun, yet still a Kebab. We decided to go with Lucky on this one and say, 'its not wrong, its just different' This quickly became our motto for the whole of europe.. Liechtenstein is also known for postage stamps, and is a place where you can pay to get your passport stamped if you wish. (UNLESS of course you hold a british passport and are therefore in the EU and therefore NEVER GET STAMPS!) mm anyways moving right along!
Everyone needed to get rid of there Swiss Francs (Switzerland 'protect' leichtenstein) so we hit the only open shot other than the kebab place, the tourist centre. Needless to say the buss became very quickly filled with Lindt chocolate, bottle openers and various other useless trinkets.
We arrived in Austria at about 4pm after a very non-eventful bus trip. We checked into our hotel and had an hour or so before dinner (and one of the biggest nights of the trip) so headed up to our room to get showered and ready (and Byron napped of course!).
Dinner was combined with another Contiki group, and we all had great expectations after being told it would be one

Me and the birthday girl - Debi of the best Hotel Meals of the trip - Authentic Austrian Schnitzel! And boy did it live up to its reputation! I had almost half a calf and was still hungry for more it was so good, and the funny thing is, the only side dish it had was mashed potato but even that was delicious! We were all very happy with that one! Before dinner though we were all treated to one shot called a 'Farmers Schnapps' you are meant to drink it before food to get the appetite going and to clear out all the senses. I think it actually just burns them all out rather than cleaning them.. Anyway so i was off to the bar to get Byron and i our first shot of the night. OUCH! Thats all i have to say! You are meant to shot the schnapps, hold your breath for 5secs then breathe out thus clearing all your sinuses etc. But as i mentioned before all i felt was a severe burning sensation and a sudden need to plunge my head in the nearest ice bucket and gulp down as much water as possible! Thankfully i was restrained enough and managed to

Sperm Shots...interesting! just chase it down with my vodka orange.. Seriously though, if you want to clear everything and start from scratch - go to Austria and have a Farmers Schnapps, but if you like your nostril hairs and oesophagus just the way they are then i strongly advise you to keep away!
Anyway so after we had recovered (well more so me, Byron seemed fine with it) out came the soup and then finally the BEST schnitzel in the world! Once all the dinner and deserts were cleared away it was time to head to the other room and start the Christmas Eve celebrations. Thomas behind the bar was another generous guy, only able to serve out tripple vodkas, so i decided to be 'sensible' and go with the Eristoff (like Smirnoff) premixed drinks so i could keep track of just how drunk i was really getting. Well it sounded like a good plan at the time anwyays!
The night was a pretty good one, just lots of drunken chatter among the two Contiki groups, Byron even managed to get chatted up by a huge (as in tall) Aussie chick who just happened to be in the same bar

The result of drinking WAY too many sperm shots.. with her brother, so how does he handle it? He brings them both over to me, says 'Em meet blah blah and blah blah' then leaves me to talk to them both for the next hour or so while he is off drinking with all our mates! Hows that form!
Anyway we eventually ditch the Aussies and continue on with the drinking and the countdown to Deb's 25th birthday (on Christmas Day).
Once midnight hits we are both pretty tire dand ready to hit the sheets as we had been drinking since 5:30pm so we snuck upstairs so we didnt get dragged back to the bar and managed to be in ok form for the early departure on Christmas Day.
Byron and i decided to exchange presents on the Sunday before we left for the contiki so it was a little weird waking up with no presents, no chrismtas tree and no family! But we were ok coz we were leaving for VENICE that day! Pretty cool!
So til next time...
