Leaving Munich for Salzburg today we wanted to find the Nymphenburg Schloss first and have a quick visit, well worth the time spent driving through the Munich traffic. This castle was built as a summer palace for the rulers and was the home of mad King Ludwig, the builder of Neuschwanstein Castle in Fussen.

With a 2 hour drive to Salzburg ahead we set off intending to stop and Hitlers Eagles Nest on the way, we did find it perched very high up on the adjacent mountain however due to the ongoing poor weather was closed for access, a bummer really as the view would have been spectacular.

On to the hotel in Salzburg and here Pam has outdone herself as we are staying at the Sound of Music Schloss in the adjacent building that has been converted into a hotel. We needed to eat so the hotel suggested a restaurant for us, on arriving there you would need a mortage to pay the bill so we went off and found a little Trattoria in town that allowed smoking inside. It was a typical little basement bar and was somewhat alternative judging by the paintings on the wall. So I immediately lit up a smoke and had a well-earned beer. Cheap food and a great atmosphere.
