SNOW!!
SNOW!! This is our second day in Salzburg, my favourite city so far.
It is stunning. Everything glistens in the snow, they have streets and shops that dazzle you as you walk past, a grand fortress on a mountain top and lots and lots of history.
Not only did this place contribute to the break out of World War I, but it is also where Mozart was born and raised.... AND good ole' Sound of Music was set. Most of our tour group today went either on a Sound of Music tour (not for me thanks) or skiing (which we'll be doing when we go back to the Italian Alps after the tour ends anyway).
So instead we made our way around the city centre, which is super easy to navigate, and then headed up to the fortress on top of the hill.
This fortress is known as Hohensalzburg Castle and sits in the centre of Salzburg. It originates in 1077 (despite there being new findings to suggest it may have been an ancient Roman fortress at one time too) and has never been taken by force. It was only ever once taken... well given actually... when Napoleon
From the fortress
From the fortress took the city. There are amazing views from atop the torture tower and whilst we were up there the sun came out, giving us a sparkling view of Salzburg.
The lowest temperature here today was -7 with a highest of -4. It wasn't too bad though because there was no wind. Tomorrow we head to Vienna where we will be attending a classical music concert.
Lebewohl xx Lex
