Poison Dart Frog
Poison Dart Frog in Puerto Viejo jungle HOLAS AMIGOS,
So early this morning I caught a bus to the Panama border, then a taxi to the marina (which is actually just a tiny dock in the back of someones house), and then a boat to the island of Bocas del Toro (which is off the north eastern coast of Panama). I settled into a really cool looking hostel and am ready to start a new adventure in a new city/country.
But first I will recap the time I spent in the city of Puerto Viejo (south eastern Costa Rica).
I spent Thursday through Monday (morning) at the some what hippy beach town of Puerto Viejo. I was pretty excited to finally get to the Costa Rica that I had imagined...palm tree beaches, surfers, and wildlife. My days there where pretty lazy...save a few adventures. One day I rented a bike (via Yuri´s suggestion) and headed down to a large park (nature). I went on a pretty long hike down the coast through a dense jungle that went almost all the way to the ocean (See pics). I saw a ton of lizards, bugs, hermit crabs, and had to dodge object thrown by monkeys (and no it
Lizard
Huge Lizard was not poop...i checked). That evening I was eating alone an Costa Rica English teacher joined me. Which was kinda neat, because she wanted to practice her English and I wanted to find out as much as I could about the area (I found the secret...beach volleyball court). I played volleyball that evening and then peddled home in the dark. The nightlife in Puerto Viejo was the best yet. Every night one of the bars would show three movies on a huge outdoor projector. So over the course of the weekend I basically watched movies, played cards with some other travellers and then one night there was a reggae dance at place called BoomBa...so of course I got a little jiggy.
Yesterday was my last full day in Puerto Viejo so I decided to try out surfing. Last time I tried was with Yuri in Cali and I couldn't even manage to get out past the break. This time was different. The currents were not as strong so it was much easier to paddle out. And I actually got up and rode a wavy...I´m hoping to do a lot of surfing over the course of my trip. That evening
surfing
Surfing in Puerto Viejo I played volleyball again and then went to bed early (I am still getting up at 5:30 in the morning....).
This morning I woke up and caught the 7:30 bus to the Panama Border. The border was actually really cool. You had to get out of the bus, and walk across this old railroad bridge (with missing boards and all). It wasnt your typical “hey I’m going to canada road crossing”.
So anyways that is where I am now (See pic of hostel). I am sharing a TINY room with some chick from Holland in a cool little american run hostel. I am paying 7 dollars a night and that includes free coffee and whatever leftover food people leave on the counter. Tomorrow I am probably going to hike around the city a little and then try some surfing (if I can find a cheap board).
I hope everyone back at home is doing good..
Mom - get better soon
Jen - I miss you

Great blog...Best one I have read so far
Question: How much is it to rent surf boards down there?
