Here we sit in Shelter Bay Marina after having hauled and painted the bottom contemplating the trip ahead. Although exciting it is sad to be ending this phase of our last 5 years sailing the Carribean. We will be leaving behind an army of new friends from all over the world who have experienced this wonderful country with us. We take with us hours and hours of memories. Each and every stop held exciting new people, foods, cultures, wildlife and friendships. We learned to be self-sufficient and frugal something we would never have learned safe and warm at home working 24 x 7 with two cars, 3 bedroom home, a TV on every floor, internet cable, etc....
As is the case for many of our friends we travel back to New Bern, NC, USA to a marina where we will live for a while in order to take care of elderly parents. There is no course in our schools that prepares us for the end of our parents lives. A nurse friend put it simply, "no matter what decision you make regarding the care of elderly parents you will always feel it was the wrong one so just go
My friend Lili and I pose for pictures
Lili is dressed in the typical Kuna Indian dress. The blouse has a "mola" sewn to it. The mola is very popular with cruisers and tourists. with your heart". That seems to be so very true.
Now that decision is made we turn to provisioning, saying goodbye and planning the trip home. We will travel slowly to miss hurricanes north and east of here. We hope to see some of Honduras, Belize, etc. as we travel. The following blogs will be the story of that trip. Come with us and enjoy. Attached are pictures of Halloween which just passed here in Shelter Bay.
