Beach day
Obsessed with it here! So you're probably wondering where I've been.
We successfully had our first trip to a little town in the South of Haiti called "Les Cayes" and I have so much to write about. Everything about it was incredible, even the 4 days with no power or wifi.
The trip started off with a 4 hour bus ride in a jam packed smaller sized Hampton Jitney basically. I was able to get some sleep seeing as we left HAC around 5:00am in the morning. When we arrived we took a thing called public transportation. Yeah there is public transportation in Haiti. Haitians get around using a simple truck with a bed in the back called a "TapTap" it was definitely an experience to say the least. Let me just say I almost felt as if I were to fall out around every turn and my hair was everywhere. When we arrived at the place we were staying it wasn't an easy paved driveway to walk up. We had to hike 25 minutes up a mountain to get to the house. The hike left my drenched in sweat as I carried my heavy luggage on my back. Finally we had arrived at our destination! The first thing we did was try some sugarcane and coconut water both were crazy good (might have to sneak both back into the states).
Well, this wasn't a paradise trip for sure. The view from the house was to die for but it basically was a one bedroom house with a couple mattresses and mosquito nets. The kitchen was considered outside and the bathroom was far from your normal style. We had to bathe with a bucket and to flush the toilet you had to throw water in it as fast as you could so everything went down. The first night while brushing my teeth a tarantula decided to crash my bathroom party. I just wrote that so casually but in reality I was screaming and I might have had a heart attack. That night when I went to bed my nightmares consisted of a spider crawling threw my mosquito net and down my neck (totally serious).
In the morning we headed out for our long day at the beach. But before that I was attacked by a chicken. I know that's just so random but I did try and take its baby chick away (whoopsies). THIS WAS THE DAY I HAD BEEN WAITING FOR. I wish I could put in words how beautiful the clear light blue water was and how white the sand was. The sand felt amazing on your feet and the sun was the strongest it could have possibly been. I was truly blessed to see such a wonderful sight. Lunch was $5 lobster. Let me say that again, $5 lobster (unreal). It was a great day and we headed home around 6:00pm at night.
The next day was full of hiking and I experienced a view of Haiti on-top of a mountain. I don't think my mouth closed once, it was incredible. The sight of mountains and crystal clear water got me like OMG. I also was able to do a little mountain run which was fun, minus my little fall (I cut a tiny cut, no worries). We had tons of great fruit especially apricots and ganips (I can't really explain what kind of fruit this is but look it up on google).
This trip was full of memories I will keep with me forever and I can't wait for our next trip!
Oh and on the bus ride back I purchased so much chocolate at the gas station that I am now currently still rocking a chocolate coma 2 days later.
I will write again soon.
Much love,
Sarbar
