After Lake Atitlan we headed to Antigua which is Guatemala´s colonial crown jewel. We arrived in Antigua on a shuttle that started bouncing all over the place once we reached the cobbled streets, not the best thing when you need the toilet. Antigua was a rustic town very similar to San Cristobal but a bit grubby in comparison. On our second day in Antigua we headed on a trip to Volcan Pacaya. This was definately the highlight of our Journey so far. We hiked for about an hour to the volcanoes lava stream. From our viewpoint we had fantastic views of the other volcanoes with the clouds sitting below the volcano crater´s. The lava stream, although still not flowing, was an alien sight with steaming vents all over the landscape. We toasted marshmallows on the vents which were delicious.
