After a day at sea, we reached our first destination on our 7 day cruise on Royal Caribbean's Serenade of the Seas. We didn't book an excursion so we set out to explore the city. Like nearby Aruba (which we'd see the next day), Curacao is a Dutch country, but we heard mostly Spanish and English due to tourism.
Near to the cruise port, there is a fort that has been turned into a shopping area. Like all destinations, prices are incredible. We were thankful that Jason found a cheap pair of flip flops in Puerto Rico, otherwise he would have had to pay upwards of $30-50 for 'designer' flipflops at the ports of call!
We crossed the Queen Charlotte floating pedestrian bridge and wandered around the city. The forecast called for a 30% chance of rain, and while we didn't have any rain the whole trip, the small amount of sprinkles that fell for a moment were a godsend against the heat! We enjoyed curacao a little longer in the shade sharing an ice cream cone. 😊
We didn't do much here, but if I did return, I'd be sure to check out the Hato Caves. A UNESCO world heritage site, it seemed like it was one of the only major draws in the area. There's also a floating market in the area that is a big draw. Tip: Word has it that just west of the cruise terminal - Holiday Beach can be accessed via a hotel for an $8 day pass.
