This year's jaunt is only 12 days of sunshine - "alright for her" you might be muttering with snow still on the ground in the UK. I'm scarpering over uni reading week - well we did have one lecture on the Cuban missile crisis, so there is a small element of relevance to the MA! How things have moved on since I went to Cambodia last year - the dream of having a challenging job in a tropical climate got me looking into work in Cambodia, and for English only speakers the jobs were all in policy. After a bit of googling when I got back home the MA in Public Policy course at Kings College London caught my eye, and 5 months into the course I feel totally out of my depth, having come from a scientific background where essays revolve around facts rather than social science arguments. I leave for Havana in four hours time, and am looking forward to savouring the sights and smells of an unfamiliar land, and a mojito (or two)!

Hi Shak-T I've always wanted to go to Cuba. Interesting times there at the moment, with Fidel no longer in the scene, and also with Cuba's close friend Chavez having won the vote to permit him to get re-elected again. Looks like Guevara's dream of a socialist Latin America is becoming more of a reality. Whatever people say about the Cuban government, the fact is that whilst the US exports arms and war, the Cubans export doctors around the world. Anyway, enough politics. Make sure you post plenty of photos and let us know what it's like on the ground. Where are you going in Cuba, by the way? Love Jon XXX
