We had a wonderful time in Costa Rica and totally recommend travelling with Natalie and Simon on their amazing year around the world.

Things we have learnt in Costa Rica

* Iguanas are the least subtle animal in the jungle
* Suspension on a car is essential and not often found when travelling around
* Tarmac is a scare commodity in Costa Rica - particularly in the nice parts
* Aoife gets really annoyed if you shine a torch in her face repeatedly when she's trying to play her next move in chess
* Rain is nice when hot
* Showers are not nice when they are cold
fridges attack you in the middle of the night when you stay in Mal Pais
* The boat from Tortuguero to Limon gets a bit overloaded sometimes (that's a
bit scary because there are crocodiles in the water)
* San Jose is like a hot Nottingham
* Travelling American Airlines is like getting a transatlantic queasyjet flight

Previous obsessions

* Turtles
* Going back to check the front door is locked behind you two times as you leave for work
* Making sure the gas cooker is off before you go to bed

New obsessions

* Flip flops
* Imperial beer
* Scrabble
* Herons
* Not wanting to go back to England but to keep stalking Natalie and Simon
* Banana milkshakes
* Gallo pinto
* Rum

Favourite animals

* Shagging turtles
* White faced monkeys
* Howling monkeys
* Spider monkeys
* Humming birds
* Stomping iguanas
* Guinness toucans
* Mr Ant Eater
* Herons (blue was Aoife's favourite closely followed by the green one)
* Caymens
* Crocodiles
* Pink flamingoes
* The very annoyed Praying Mantas (he didn't like Simon useing the flash when he was trying to take an extreme close up picture)

New names for Natalie

* Nattles
* Natstar*

Things to avoid

* The letter "Q" in scrabble
* Talking to taxi drivers about their country's imigration problems
* Miami airport
* Weird vomiting bugs that make you look pale under your tan

Things that we'll remember

* Seeing whales on Aoife's birthday
* Enjoying chilled evenings with an imperial beer playing scrabble with Natalie and Simon
* Anteater with bizarre tail running away at our excitement at spotting it by the river
* Seeing from our bedroom window a troop of monkeys passing by on their way to breakfast
* What bananas are actually meant to taste like
* Fireflies among the trees at night on the fourth most active volcano in the world
* Drinking cocktails in hot springs
