plane
view from plane The day I had been waiting for had finally come! My trip which I had been planning for the past 5 months had finally arrived.
I flew jet blue, and to my surprise and delight....had the entire row to myself! I got to stretch out, take my shoes off, and gaze out the window. And of course, me being on a plane meant....wine time! I am no longer a nervous flyer, but usually I like having a drink or two (or three!) when flying to start out my vacation. Well....for some reason the (male) flight attendant did not charge me for my three wines I had ordered. There was a row of girls across the aisle from me ordering drinks and he kept giving them free drinks too so I couldnt feel too special, lol.
Well, I had a nice little buzz getting off the plane, and joining the mile long line to immigration. Luckily, my phone let me send out text messages and I sent nearly everyone in my phone a message "Im in Costa Rica!" then.... "I'm going through customs drunk....I'm an immigrant!" I know....what a dork. I was tired, hungry, excited, and....well.....mainly excited. In the customs
wine
for being "airline wine" it was really yummy! line I became very chatty with the woman standing behind me. She was there for a business trip and I went on and on "Im here to volunteer with turtles!"
Finally it was my turn to go to the customs agent....a very friendly guy. Asking me if I had been there before, etc. Then, he grabbed his big stamp and.....THUD! "welcome to Costa Rica" he said. Four words that made me giddy, and feel silly and.... almost like I was watching myself in a travel channel episode of Sam Brown or Bourdain.... "Welcome to costa Rica" thats all he had to say..... I have arrived!
Well....my airport ride was there and I spotted her immidiantly, wearing the "i to i " shirt. The exact one I was wearing so my pick up could recognize me. Her name is Nikki and from the UK and very very friendly. We got a cab to the hostel and she was very warm, friendly, chatty and open. I liked her already.
Once at the hostel, I checked myself in....it was barelly 2-ish.... dinner was at 6, I had plenty of time to walk the city and roam around....I set my luggage
beautiful
beautiful water! on the bottom bunk of the bed and....passed out....for nearly 4 hours. I had not gone to bed the night before AT all and was exhausted...
Well, I expected dinner to be a big ordeal w/ lots of other volunteers. Well, it wasnt, which was fine. I met Nikki in the bar area by the hostel and there were two other british guys there. One named Luke who was due to leave back home the next day, and Alex, whom had just arrived there and was going to be in the same orientation as me the next day.
Only Alex and I ate, while Luke and Nikki sat with us....dinner was....ok. I wasnt fond of it. It was a noodle dish with some sort of sauce on it....it looked and tasted like curry. Well....with in the hour, I had terrible stomach cramps and went to lay down in my room.... I was getting sick already, oh no!!
I met my room mates for the evening. All three girls from the US. Two, both had M names (I forgot their names!) were traveling together, and the other, Victoria was from Arizona traveling through out latin america on her
water
not sure what land I was flying over....key west maybe? own which I thought was cool and I envy her!! its my dream to go backpacking for a couple months. She was doing it for about 8 or 9 months, I think.
Luckily, my stomach cramps subsidded after a very fun trip to the bathroom, and I woke up at 3am starving and excited all over again. I was in Costa Rica baby!
