Kate¨- So we had a bit of an akward flight to Costa Rica from L.A- not because anything went wrong but just because it was at 2 am and we had to stop over in Guatemala for about and hour before getting to San Jose so all in all is was around a 7 hour journey. By the time we got our luggage and hailed a taxi to take us to our hotel it was around 10am. We got to our hotel, a typical Best Western that we had pre booked and just vegged out for a bit in our room. After a bit of veg'in we decided to have a bit of an explore of San Jose. San Jose, 'down town' where we were is your typical busy, hot smelly, dirty city. Luckily for us our hotel was in walking distance of the main Boulevard so we headed for there just for a bit of nosey round. The main high street- i know this is going to sound weird, but it reminded me a bit of Bedminster high street- no offence to anyone that lives in Bedminster, but for those who don´t know Bristol ,Bedminster High street is a little
er....a little grotty with lots of bargain cheap shops and a pedestrianised high street- just like San Jose- well kind of anyway. Needless to say it wasn´t our most favourite place so after spending only 2 days there we were pretty pleased to be getting out!
So our first stop is Playa Tamarindo.. It is is one of the bigger of the ´surf´ towns. It took us around 5 hours to get there and once we reached the cental strip the first thing that hit us was the heat when leaving the air conditioned coach. It is Hot here. Not entirely sure but we reckon around 30 degrees in the middle of the day - it cools off at night. So far we have been here 4 days and it has been the total opposite of our time in America. We have just chilled out!!!! Been on the beach most days working on our tans- unfortunately for Steve though there had yet to be any surf- doh!!! Tamarindo itself isn´t very large and is made up for mainly hotels, restuarntes and beachy shops. So far we have had some amazing food here, surprisingly the rice and bean dishes steve
loves, and they have loods of seafood which is great. We are trying our hardest to stick to a tight budget as is isn´t as cheap as some of the other South American countries so we have to be careful and we are very aware of our money going down and nothing coming in- it is a scary thought so i am trying not to think abot it too much. So far we have managed to live off around 10 pounds a day but that isn´t including accomodation and that is only really 2 meals per day.. Its not too bad and the meals we are having are lush which makes up for the one we are missing!
After a few days of lounging we decided that we had to venture off the beach at some point so we decided to take a tour down the near by Estuary to check out the wildlife and see if we could spot any crocs!! We had a really nice guy named Jose to take us on his boat along the estauray that stretchs around 6 km. It was beautiful (not sure if our photos really do it justice). We saw loads
of birds- can´t remember what they were now and half was through our trip we hopped off th boat into the Mangrove forest to see if we could spot some Monkeys!! Jose got us to wait in the forest and he darted off to see what he could spot. After heading further into the forest sure enough he found them. And not just one or two, around 15 howler monkeys (apparently a family) just hanging out in the Mangrove trees- it was so cool- there was even a mother with a less than 2 week old baby on her back. Unfortunately my camera just can´t zoom far enough to get any good shots but steve got some gooduns! I am really looking forward to getting into the Jungle to see what else we can spot although Steve tells me if he sees and frogs he is going to try and thow them at me- how rude!! Unfortuantely on our Estuary trip we didn´t see any Crocs but to be honest the boat was fairly low in the water so i think if i actually did see one it may have been a little too close for my liking!
Anywho
off to the beach for some more tanning- keep your comments coming, it is so great to hear from everyone and keep in contact. Wish me luck in the Jungle- fingers crossed we don´'t come across and frogs ahhhhhhhh xx

Wish you could send some of those rays over here getting fed up of April showers. Food sounds good just my style. Met a helpful STA lady yesterday!
