We left Caye Caulker yesterday and flew to Punta Gorda. We ended up on the milk run which involved a total of 7 landings and take offs. I'm prone to motion sickness and am surprised I didn't spend most ot the rest of the day throwing up. It was definitely a great way to see Belize. Lots of great areal views.
We arrived in Punta Gorda, or PG as it is locally referred to, around 2:00 pm. When you get off the plane you immediately notice the lushness and the gorgeous mountain scapes to the west. PG is the largest most southern centre in Belize. You can see Guatemala to the south and you are very close to Honduras to the east.
There is lots to do around here but be sure to do your research before you come. Most of the tours require booking a full day and you need to plan this in advance or you will end up like us. SOL. We will have to find our own fun today. There is lots of cave tubing, zip lining, Mayan ruin tours, and a tour of the local chocolate factory.
We are staying at a place
called the Coral House Inn. I have to tell you if you are thinking about coming to PG this is definitely the place to stay. It is small. Only 4 rooms and one suite, but it's kept immaculate. The gardens are beautiful and they have this wonderful smelling ylang-ylang tree right by the pool. I honestly thought ylang-ylang was some gimmicky scent that they added to lotion to make it smell good. It really does exist! We made a couple of new 4 legged friends who kept us company in the yard. Two cats, Gretta and Gabby, and two dogs Gitta (I think) and Gracie. I'm a cat lover so I enjoyed having Gretta hanging out and sitting on my lap.
The owners Rick and Darla are super people and they and their staff will bend over backwards to make your stay as pleasant as they can, and it's been very pleasant indeed. of course we wanted to know if they had a bar when we got there and they do, but they have no one to tend it so everything is done on the honour system. You want a glass of wine or a beer, and just write
it down and they'll charge you at the end of your stay. We stayed in a suite lasts night which was very beautiful and spacious with all the modern amenities you could ask for. Tonight we will be moving to a room but I'm pretty sure that it will be just as nice. We don't need much space anyways.
Today we will go in to town and explore a bit. We will probably nap a bit too. Howler monkeys, neighbourhood roosters and barking dogs kept us up a good part of the night. We will be more prepared for tonight.
