Parrot Nest Lodge
Iguana hanging out We got up a bit before 8a to pack and get ready to check out. The Canadian couple had told us about a bakery around the corner from where we were staying, saying they heard it was the best in Belize. We stopped by there to pick up some baked goods for the bus ride. It smelled great in there. We got to pick up a tray and some tongs, and put what we wanted on the tray. Then bring the tray to the front and they wrap and pack up your goodies. We got a piece of carrot cake, a sweet roll, a cookie, some fruit filled pastry, and another sugary flaky pastry. Everything cost about 4 Belize dollars.
We continued on and found our way to the temporary bus terminal. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a bus, but then got on and found seats together near the back. The bus filled up quickly, and it wasn't too bad when the windows were open - a nice breeze would whip through the bus. But it wasn't long into the ride before it started to rain and all the windows got closed up. It got a bit warmer

our little room then, but still not too bad. It took about 1.5 hours to get to Belize City and we got off our bus and straight onto one headed to San Ignacio. That one took about 3 hours, but the time seemed to go by fast. We sat at the back of the bus again with our luggage behind us - keeping an eye on it so no one would want to grab it and go out the back exit.
The bus pulled over into a dirt lot next to a taxi stand and market and let us out. We grabbed a taxi and headed out to where we are staying, The Parrot Nest Lodge. It's about 3 miles outside of San Ignacio and it's out in the jungle a bit, right near the river. It's really pretty. We arrived around 2pm. We are staying in a treehouse, which I'm excited about. Theo (the owner) met us and showed us around a bit. There is a nice open main area with chairs, a hammock, and 2 tables where communal meals are served.
We put our stuff in our room, which is small (just enough space for a bed and a footpath around

pork chop, coconut rice, corn fritter, veggies, salad. the bed) but is enough space for us. We hung out the rest of the afternoon in the main area reading and went and took a nap in the late afternoon. We came back to the main area around 6ish and met the other guest's who are staying here. It was a family of 6 people - 3 brothers, one who brought his wife and two kids. Most of them had been here before, and one of them had actually been born and raised in Belize. There was a lot of talking and goings on. They were a rowdy and friendly bunch.
Dinner was served and it was great. We had a pork chop that was sauced up a little, lots of coconut rice, a little side salad and bread pudding for dessert. It was a ton of food, but it was wonderful.
Theo called to set up a tour for us the next day, but said we would have to get up in the morning and see which ones were running (because of the all the rain the week before, some of the tours weren't running). We stayed up drinking some beers and rum with Markus (Theo's husband) and

some homemade wine. Nate (the guest who was born in Belize) until about 11pm. It was good times, but we were tired and had to get up early the next day.
