Photo hides hostal rooms dirtiness I spent 3 weeks in this downtown Santiago hostal and I live to regret it.
The owner, a pleasant lady, does not spend the time to really manage the place : rooms are on the second floor on both sides of a 6-foot wide hallway where even during the day it needs to turn on the lights.
In room #6 where I stayed , the room smelled feces , the toilet bowl showed solid rims of feces stains and the bowl outside as well.
I was provided every 2nd day towels with ragged sides, red-brown spots and the mattress showed signs of holes and rusted springs.
Roaches seem to come out at night and roam freely.
Photo hides bad management of room cleanliness.
From Cynthia Dear Shanna and Vibert,I sent you both several emails in the past days but get no reply. I am quite worried and don't know how your recent days are. I learnt from the radio that there is a flooding along Caribbean.Does it affect your country? Please give me a message so I will not worry. I am missing you both terribly. Wish everything is perfect with you. Cynthia
PIC 3 HEY
I saw this pic on the net with a reference to Bartica, Guyana. Where exactly was this pic taken. Just curious to find out because of the very blue water I see in the background??
Thanks
Phil
Clean rooms at Hostal del Cibao Well, in 2010, precisely October 16 to November 8, rooms at Hostal del Cibao are NOT exactly clean.
My towel would come with many brown spots or ragged on the borders.
Room no. 6 smelled feces and I had to buy clorox, a brush and rubber gloves to complete the
cleaning job with the help of Yaquelin, a week-end cleaner .

Amazing Hello guys. I just wanted to congratulate you guys for completing such an amazing journey. And beyond that, for taking the time to share it all with the rest of us on this great blog that you have. It's witty, informative, attention grabbing, and very well written. I read travel blogs daily, and this is by far my favorite. As an airline employee, and avid traveller, i still find myself in awe of some of the places you all visited. It definitely takes a unique personality and open mind to travel abroad. Probaly even more so when you're "our" color, because some of the staring and attention can be almost paralyzing. But again, congrats on this amazing feat.
Best Wishes,
Adrian
Missed it I have been to Guyana 4 times - I love to swim - we went to Jubalie, Splashmans and a Creek by Melissa's cabin. She was born in Georgetown and she never told me about Blue Lakes?? Incredible!!! I got to go again! Got to swim in those blue waters! I will take some food, a couple of Banks Beers and Melissa and have a blast!!
CONGRATULATIONS! DEO GRATIAS! Greetings Shanna and Vibert,
What more can I say that I have not said ever since the adventure (yours and mine) started? CONGRATULATIONS! THANKS BE TO GOD! I will always be grateful to Suzette for introducing me to your travel blogs as they have given me so many countless hours, weeks and months of enjoyment in one form or another. I have never met Vibert, yet I feel that he is as much a friend and treasured acquaintance as you are, Shanna. His face has become so familiar from your photos and his personality and "joie de vivre" come across very forcefully. Hold on tight! I hope my husband and I would have the opportunity to welcome and accommodate you both in Trinidad at some time in the not too distant future. Please keep in touch. Now that your (current) travel saga is at an end and you have returned to the real world, I would greatly appreciate if you could e-mail me your present mailing address. I would like to send you a token of my appreciation for making me a part of your exciting world over the last two years and would also be happy to have an idea of how it feels to settle down after successfully following your dream of seeing the world "up close and personal". I leave you with Love, Light, Peace & much Joy.
Hi Vibert....Wow! you really are having a grand time eh? I knew you had it in you and I have always said that you are ambitious and will one day be on top. Glad to know that you are getting to see places and that you are doing Guyana proud with those pics.
Taek care.
