Beijing
I enjoyed reading this blog very much, thank you for posting ? The Hutong meal must have been a wonderful highlight. I'm sorry you were unable to go inside the Forbidden City, but it seems because of it you were able to visit another nearby less-visited temple. The 18m high statue must have been very impressive indeed. Looking forward to reading more.

Sad but has some benefits
He Alex - yes it was sad not to be able to go inside the Forbidden City but being in China during this time of celebration is proofing to be quite fortutous as we are having so many other experiences and seeing huge preparation for 1 October festival. Hope you enjoy our next posts. Cheers Sheila

China
Wow! Your itinerary and map look amazing, it seems you have a very exciting journey ahead of you! I look forward to following along. Great to read that you were able to find a quieter section of the Great Wall. What a fantastic introduction to this amazing country! ?

Beguiling China
Hi Alex - certainly enjoying the adventure so far and so much more to come - the Great Wall was indeed a highlight and so glad we managed to see several sections to get more of an idea of its tremendous size and the struggle to build it snaking across the mountain tops. Regards Sheila

Gu Gong - The Forbidden City

The crowds is not a big problem actually
Too bad you couldn't visit the Forbidden City. It is quite an experience actually. Don't worry about there being many visitors. It actually doesn't get crowded. The place is huge and most visitors come on tours. They walk in groups and don't take up much space as they move along. Hope you have a chance to come back some other time and see it. /Ake

Gu Gong - The Forbidden City

The Forbidden City
Hi Ake - Yes it was such a shame that we were unable to visit the city this time but we were so grateful that at least we had a 'birds eye' view. Regards Sheila

Unrestored ancient Watchtower

The unrestored sections are awesome
I have visited the Great Wall a few times and I enjoyed the unrestored sections more. I would like to make a trip along the wall from east to west some time. Not going exactly along the wall all the way, but sort of having the wall as a theme. I think that would be a really interesting trip. Your roundtrip in China looks like a wonderful adventure. I wish you good luck. /Ake

Beautiful photos of the wall
Your trip looks amazingly diverse, and I'm looking forward to reading about it all. I'm sure you'll be super proficient users of chopsticks by the end of the trip :) Cheers, Ren

I look forward to Following you on your visit to China...
it will bring back memories. This blog brought back memories of having to converse using our cell phones (five doctors trying to tell us what was wrong with my sick son) and trying to order food (ordering waffles at a Sofitel, but unable to obtain syrup only after many items were brought to us). Our visit to the Great Wall was very crowded. I just sat with a group of older Chinese who shared their snacks with me (not sure what I was eating) as we communicated through sign language. You will have a wonderful time!

All good
Thanks for your comments and all super good so far. Hope your son got sorted in the end and you found some Syrup ? Cheers from us both

Family
I mentioned family in my last comment on India yes or no, so strange you then bring up the same things in this blog, I really can not remember Uncle Ronald only the few pictures I have seen of him. I do remember the stories from Granny Groves and Dad how disillusioned he became and the mental struggle to keep his faith. I must say the wild life you have pictured portray many things I was not really aware of!! Nice to see you Sheila with your hands in prayer also keeping the faith!!

Family links to India
Hi Malcolm and great to see that you managed to get into the blogs, hopefully the site will be up and running fully soon. It was also great to catch up with you at Uncle Les's funeral, although another sad occasion losing both of mums brothers within a few months it was nice to see so many of the family again. With regard to Indian curry I must admit that before I went I was not a a great fan of Indian cuisine but my taste buds have thoroughly changed since sampling some of the best foods I have tasted for ages during our month around India. Really enjoyed so many new tastes and flavours and particularly liked the Paneer and I am hoping that our last lodge will send me their special recipe. S x

India yes or no?
Well I must say India never drew my attention but with your comments, pictures, and the TV programmes you can view India in many different ways. I suppose the same as many countries different cultures and the same rich poor divides. They do seem wider in India though. I have been a little fascinated though through Granny Groves stories and Sue's step dad who was stationed in India. When he came back he could never face a curry or even the smell of one. I also remember our old Doctor Macarthur telling me the same thing after he spent time out there. Anyway bon voyage to you both see you soon!!

Spot the Tiger

Wow!
To see a genuine tiger in its own habitat would be so cool even if it is only a glimpse. /Ake
