Geo: 36.6415, -93.2177Left the motel today and headed off to the Bass Pro Outdoor World, the biggest Bass Pro Shop in the USA. It was amazing, with live Alligators, tanks full of Bass and stuffed animals set into woodland. We then made our way to the Fantastic Caverns, a drive through cave system in the hills and a historic hangout of the Ku-Klux Klan.On to Branson the holiday capital of Missouri, and 2 nights in the Hilton which was located on Branson Landing right on the river. We had some beautiful crab and margaritas for lunch at Joes Crab Shack then headed back to our room as Branson was expecting severe thunder storms. We awoke the next morning to good weather and took a scenic rail trip through the Ozark hills then went to visit the Titanic ... read more

Geo: 37.2153, -93.2982Good weather this morning as we head off to Saint Louis and a very busy freeway system. After bypassing Saint Louis with only one wrong turn we head towards the home of the Simpsons, Springfield Missouri. My driving is now more confident as I exit of the interstate and venture onto verious parts of Route 66, however my sat nav is going crazy as it continually recalculates and we frequently get lost. Not that that phases us as we can always cut back to the Interstate as we move ahead. We stop at a town called Rolla for lunch and take in a classic American take away, Kentucky Fried Chicken. Rolla is next to Fort Dixon and a heap of military folk. Guess what, the chicken was much better than what we get at home.We ... read more

Geo: 39.801, -89.6436On waking this morning it is raining heavily with storms expected in the afternoon, not good weather to start our drive. On arriving at Midway Airport Thrifty Car Rentals teased me by saying that they have a Mustang in the lot. Given I was chasing a Camaro, a Mustang or a Charger this was my second choice. On calling the lot it seems the Mustang was hired 10 minutes before we arrived, damn!!! It doesn't end there......Thrifty then told me they had no Dodge Chargers and the best they could do was a Chevy Malibu which I reluctantly accepted over a gas guzzling 4 wheel drive.Drove out of the Airport like a pro and hit the I55 South at about 8.00am. Not long after it pelted down rain and didn't stop for 3 hours. ... read more

Geo: 41.8861, -87.6364Left LA on the 17th so we could spend some extra time in Chicago, however United Airlines screwed us over with a 3 hour delay due to a broken aircraft. Once on board they apologized profusely and gave us free drinks for the entire flight which helped a little. On arriving at Ohare Airport it was massive and we finally got to our hotel at 7.30pm having also lost 2 hours to time zones. Out to dinner and we had the best steak and lamb we have ever set our eyes upon however the portions were so massive most of our meal was wasted. After a late night we are both still trying to overcome jet lag. With very little sleep we awoke to snow and a very cold day. We visited Navy Peir and ... read more

Geo: 34.0533, -118.245After a short stay in downtown LA we moved over to Hollywood on the 15th and checked into the very nice Renaissance Hollywood Hotel. High speed Internet at last. Caught the Metro to Universal City where we spent 1 hour in various lines to finally get our "Front of Line Pass", thank goodness we purchased two of those. Universal Studios was great with the highlight being the new 3D King Kong Adventure Ride. It was very hot today (a heatwave according to the locals) and we both ended up sunburnt. Back to the Hotel and we cooled down with multiple Gin and Tonics. On the 16th it was very hot again as we boarded an open top buss and headed off on a three hour tour of the Stars Homes in Beverly Hills, Sunset Strip, ... read more

Geo: 34.0533, -118.245After a 12.30 hr long distance flight. Virgin Australia (VA) seats were great, lighting was good, video entertainment was good, food was good, alcoholic intake was even better, but it seams there is no silver bullet for the tyranny of long distance travel. We did however gain a day due to time zones.Arrived in LAX after a 20 year lag since my last visit, nothing much has changed. It amazes me that Australian airport facilities seem so more advanced, however I'm sure the USA would have a defensive statement about this. For the blog......... LA downtown is probably not a good choice to stay as a tourist (our mistake) as is the Wiltshire Grand, it is mainly for the business orientated and some what dated. For the technical....... radio/Internet connection was low speed 802.11b and ... read more

Geo: -27.4676, 153.028A long distance journey what else can we say. We left The Gap at 5.30am to catch our Virgin Australia flight. Ok, Virgins Internet access point was down but we did have access to some of their lounge goodies. A lot of waiting in lines at Sydney but finally got onto Virgins brand new jet.............very nice. More in the next blog.... read more
