After 4 or 5 days of cloud and low 20 temperatures, the sun returned on Tuesday morning (October 21), as temperatures soared to around 30C. We immediately headed out the door to world famous Sugarloaf Mountain, for the 360 degree view of Rio and its surrounding islands. We caught the gondela that leaves from Rio, and stretches across cables first to one lower view and then to the peak of Sugarloaf. Sugarloaf is the most odd shaped mountain i have seen, but it is spectacular much like its view. After photos and relaxing for a bit, we made the trek down [View Full Entry]

At 4:30 on Sunday, October 20th, Dylan and I caught the bus and subway to the world renown Maracana Stadium where we were to watch Flamengo play Vasco de Gama. We arrived with the masses, only to find everyone was giving ID with their money. We finally made it to the front of the ticket line, and tried explaining to the ticket lady that we were tourists and had no ID with us, she got someone who spoke English, and all was good, we got our tickets. The amount of police at the game would be approximately the size of the [View Full Entry]

Yesterday (Friday the Oct 17th) was the best day of the trip, in the morning Dylan and I woke up early and headed to Santa Theresa, which is a bohemian style neighborhood that runs through rich and poor parts in the hills of Rio. We caught the bus and subway to get there and then took a bonde (tram) to get up the side of the hill. The views were excellent and the views of the favelas in the surrounding hills really displayed the large contrasts from Ipanema. The bonde was an amazing experience as there were few tourists on it [View Full Entry]

Rio is a dynomiiiiite place. Awesome, most naturally beautiful place i have been, and an unbelievable gap between rich and poor. The rich live like kings, soaking up large homes, condos and driving the most expensive of cars. Whereas the favelas of Rio house the poorest of the poor. These favelas are marred by graffiti, crumbling buildings, garbage, sewage and telephone poles with 5000 random wires attached for free electricity. Where everyone comes together is the central spot for all Rio social life...the beach. The beaches here are of the finest white sand and all look beautiful, but [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone, sorry for the delayed updates...been busy wandering about and getting to know some people in Sao Paulo. For those of you who don't know, Sao Paulo is the 3rd biggest city in the world, at over 22 million people. And its freakin huge. Its a city of concrete, not really pretty, but it does have its moments in certain parts of the city, parks, museums and the people (who are called Paulistos for men, Paulistas for women). First and foremost, yes it is true Brazilian women are beautiful. As for what I've been up to, the first day i [View Full Entry]

Boarded a late bus on October 5th, heading out of Buenos Aires on the way to Puerto Iguazu, to where the 2nd biggest waterfalls and supposedly one of the most astounding sites on our planet rests. The bus ride was a relatively short one for me, as I slept 16 of the 18 hours...so when arrival came around noon on the 6th, off to the falls! Boarded a bus for the 20 minute ride to Iguacu. There is a small train that takes you to the pathways that you walk to the falls, there are many different falls, but the most [View Full Entry]

On the weekends in Buenos Aires, this place is crazy...really crazy. The night of October 2nd we went to a pub called Shamrock, followed by a club called Niceto Club, which much to our suprise had a transvestite show that night, thus we polished our beers and headed home, the time 4AM. I guess you would think wow 4AM, thats really late. I need to explain the Argentine day for you, eat breakfast 9-11, lunch around 2pm and dinner around 10pm, then most people go to a pub or lounge for drinks and don´t go to the club until 2am, clubs [View Full Entry]

Buenos Aires, Argentina The night of September 20th was really good we went to a local pool hall in Barrio Norte, which is a more residential area, and away from the turistas. Dylan and I played some pool and had a few beers. We met 2 girls there named Jesi and Lilicha, Jesi spoke no english and Lilicha spoke a little, so our spanish/spanglish skills were hurtin. We played pool with them and chatted a bit, than they ordered a pizza for dinner (around 1130 at night, late at night is a somewhat normal time to eat here), the pizzas here [View Full Entry]

This part of the blog is probably going to be the least interesting for everyone, but hey its gotta be done, or else the blog isn't complete. Basically the 5th, 6th and 7th were identical days of laying around, reading, sleeping and walking about town a little bit... we're tired from travelling and walking so much. January 5th we came back from Novi Sad by bus and got back to the residence around noon, we had a bite to eat, did some reading, and pretty much updated our blogs/emails/other internet crap all afternoon and into the early evening. We had planned [View Full Entry]
