The first stop with Mom...Sevilla! Granada Well. Mom finally showed up Friday night. She was tired, but still made up the effort to go grab some tapas at 1045pm. It was fun. Saturday we walked around Granada. It was sort of neat to show my walking grounds while I have been there. We explored the Alhambra and did some of the free visiting there, like the Palacio Carlos V. Was fun. We went to the Cathedral that afternoon. (See previous posts on that one). Around 730 we took a stroll around the Albaicin, and watched the sun set on the Alhambra from the Mirador San Nicolás. I must say it was WELL worth it. We showed up around 845 and the colors change so majestically. There is a point that the mountains actually look red in ... read more

Just a few more days... Well, I have been playing it easy the past few days. There isn´t going to be too much cultural stuff to this blog. I more or less just wanted to catch you up on what has been going on. You are about to get 2 weeks of almost daily blogs, so beware! I decided to give you a little bit of a taste of what my life has been like here. I am staying in Residence Carlos V through the University of Granada. It is about a 25-35 minute walk to the center of town (which also happens to be where the school is). Most days I wake up around 745, head down to grab breakfast and start my walk. It is actually a nice walk to take. Sort of neat ... read more

A busy couple of days My past couple of days have been hectic! On top of that, I have been sick. One of the girls in my class was sick, and lucky me my immune system wanted to jump on that! It is nothing, just a head cold. You guys know me. When I haven´t been doing pre-planned excursions I have been sleeping. Since I am doing nothing tonight I actually have time to get on here! Beware, there is a lot... So, you might be asking what it is i have been doing since the Alhambra day... Well, Wednesday I wasn´t feeling so hot, but I had already bought tickets for this show at night. Though I wasn´t feeling great I am so very glad that I still went to the show! Too much for just one visit Before I begin: 1) Thank you guys who write comments and emails. I hope you get my responses. It is nice having the connection to home and to some neat people I haven´t met! 2) This will not be my only Alhambra blog because there is TOO much to talk about. I will give you another blog when I go with mom (I can NOT wait to take you there mama!) The Alhambra is impresionante (impressive/stunning/breathtaking). I went on a tour with my class and had an incredible guide giving us the history. I am sure I won´t remember everything, but next time I go I will give more as I learn it. We went for a 3 hour tour, and I felt rushed. (Mama, I think when we go ... read more

A day of rest This is not going to be a long blog, so don´t get too excited. Yesterday was Sunday and I took it easy. I went to find a church that I discovered a while searching on the internet, but it wasn´t opened. :( I assume they had a baptismal service and were probably in the river somewhere. Who knows. Then I took a random walk to the Albaicin. It was beautiful. Of all the places though, it is the one in Spain you supposedly have to be the most cautious in. That being said, if you play it smart and go with people, you shouldn´t have a problem! It is the old Muslim neighborhood. The sultan lived here until one of the sultans decided to move to the Alhambra, which used to just ... read more

¡Me encanta la playa! First of all, I did not go to Salobreña, but it is all of 10 minutes from Almuñécar, and that city was not listed. Sad face. Well, I woke up early to grab breakfast and then meet up with my travelling buddies for the day. We met at the bus station (25 minute walk) around 945 for our 10am bus ride. Unfortunately I had a migraine starting (i think from lack of water, DRINK WATER! I have been drinking a lot, but it gets so hot sometimes I don´t think i am drinking enough). The bus was actually more comfortable than the train. The only problem was that we drove on some winding roads, therefore, I started to get a bit car sick. (It didnt help that the driver had to keep ... read more

Cultural Tidbits I am learning a few things about the culture here that are must knows. *First of all, a siesta is an absolute must. I am finally getting used to the time frame they have here. I am taking a siesta almost every day, because the only time you really want to go out is the afternoon/evening. It is quite typical to meet up with a few of the other students around 8 and stay out until 1 or 2. In fact, you don´t really even know that you are out that late beacause EVERYONE is out that late, including young children. It is just the culture here. Part of it is because it is cool in the morning and the evening, and in the middle of the day it is incredibly hot. After staying ... read more

Why sleep? Well: *The sun doesn´t even begin to go down until almost 10pm *A siesta is a MUST in the afternoon because NO ONE is out from 2-5, if you are, you are most DEFINITELY a tourist, so why not take an hour nap?? *There are just too many things to do! So what things have I been doing you may ask? Well, Class for one. I am really enjoying it because it is reminding me that I actually know Spanish! We have been talking about humor in Spain, the language of texting, and some common errors and what they mean. I may be a dork, but i really enjoy it. My accomodations are nice. I have a decent room, and though hot during the day at night is pretty cool. The food is ... read more

My home for 3 weeks So, I am safe here in Granada! I do not have many pictures yet, but they will come. I have 3 weeks here. Yesterday I hopped on the train in Madrid at the Atocha Renfe station. It was easy considering I already had my train ticket. I again was on platform 9! Sort of funny. The train was not as comfortable as the Ave train, the newer faster trains, that I took to Toledo the day before, but it wasn´t horrible. There was AC and I was able to watch Mamma Mia on the train, the music was still in English, but the dialogue was Spanish with English subtitles. It was an interesting experience. The train ride, though long, was not a horrible experience. The sights along the way were beautiful. ... read more

Walking back in time Oh my. Toledo is the real deal. I can now see where the amusement parks get the idea of Old Europe! I started my day at 830, having slept through my 730 alarm because I didn´t fall asleep until, I don´t know 4AM!!! I went to bed around 830 pm, and around 1045 some wonderful human beings staying at my hostal decided it would be fun to scream and slam doors before they went out for the evening. Since i was so wonderfully awaken, the bustling of late night Madrid came right through my window, so nice when you are going to jet lag and trying to get rid of it :). (Mama, bring earplugs just in case!) Around 330am i decided to just open my windows to get the breeze, and ... read more
