Hi Short post today because we mostly drove. A word about yesterdays post. All those extra letters, numbers and characters are for apostrophes, so if you can't make it out, just insert an apostrophe before the last letter. Sorry. I think Ill leave them out now. Arrived at Spuds Roadhouse at 6:30 PM. Walked in and was engulfed by the smell of cooking grease, beer and cigarette smoke. Lovely. The folks were very nice though. Its basically a truck stop along an empty highway, in an empty landscape. Think you'll like the pix.... read more

No cell phone and no internet, so I’ll run the next few days together. I suppose I should start with the evening of July 3rd . We came back from Riley’s birthday dinner to our “railway wagon” accommodations in Cape Jervis. It consisted of two bedrooms and a very fancy bathroom with a spa tub. The proprietess, Jackie, informed us that all the water is rain water and it hasn’t rained very much. She didn’t actually say not to use the tub, but it seemed the kind thing to do. So off to their bedroom the kids went while I downloaded some photos. Then came the blood-curdling scream. There was a giant red ant on Riley’s pillow and many dead and live centipedes on the floor. That did both of them in. So, we grabbed the ... read more

Hello again-- Today is another day of just getting from one place to another. So, I thought I’d give you a sense of how we’re traveling. I mentioned being baggage handlers. We have 6 large duffel bags, 4 smaller ones, three back packs, a tote bag/purse, a small duffle with miscellaneous electronic gear, compass, flashlights, etc., and a computer case. Two of the duffels have all of our camping gear, tents, sleeping bags, ground pads, tools, etc. Outside those bags are four pillows stuffed in a bag. And, did I mention the ‘fridge we bought? Yeah, we bought it!!! And, yesterday, there were four very wet, dripping rain coats. A nice lady gave us a tarp because their vacation was over and they didn’t need it. I almost turned it down because I didn’t know where ... read more

G'Day Mates Long boring day. Got excellent, detailed directions from our mate, Ray, and from Robyn and John at our B & B Farm stay, and still managed to get lost. By the time we realized we weren't on the scenic, much shorter route, there was no turning back. It stormed most of the day inside and outside our truck if you get my drift. Our drive followed The Great Ocean Road which is a winding, twisty, two-laned road right along the Southern Ocean. It provides spectacular scenery. There was one scenic stop we were determined to make - the Twelve Apostles. These are twelve massive towers that have eroded from the mainland and stand in the ocean - still eroding. There may be only ten now. The reason we don't know for sure is that ... read more

Hi again: In my head I was organized to do this, but I can't seem to figure out what day it is. So, don't pay any attention if I don't get the day right. Got a late start this morning for various reasons - some having to do with getting our fridge - yes, the one we own, - working properly. But, we got off. There is not an unused inch in the truck. Our idea of a car top carrier didn't work out, so we are playing re-arrange the bags every time we stop. The kids are great about it though. Staying on a farm tonight. The kids got to feed the lambs before we went to the Penguin Parade. Our destination today was Philip Island to see the Little Penguins. Some of them come ... read more

Hi all: Connecting to the outside world may be a real problem but we're going to "give it a go" as they say Down Under. Flight uneventful but Lonnnnggg! Met at the airport by our Aussie mate (friend) Ray Elder. Got our car and followed Ray to his home. Picture this: Frank driving on the other side of the road, with a sticik shift that is operated not with the right hand but with the left, heading out into mid-day traffic from the airport to Ray's place about an hour away. Next picture this: Annette constantly telling Frank he is too close to the car in the next lane, too close to the curb, too close oncoming traffic - what's it doing on that side of the road anyway?? - not quite stiffling the hundreds of ... read more
