The old pedaler... Great to read your blogs Robin. Golf starts with a practice round tomorrow Tuesday 13th Oct. I doubt that you'll be allowed out...and like me some practice during this next week will be rather necessary!!!!
Fellow travellers The German sounds like hell on wheels. Worst we had were two Japanese who proceeded to clean their ears with the bamboo gadget with the bit of string attached. This was after we had just unpacked our lunch, which we hurriedly repacked and spent the rest of the journey asleep. Ah those fellow travelers ... give me a gun for a rail journey!!
Interlaken Days 2&3 Looks so cool. We have cabin fever six days of solid rain, got close to evacuating the camp but water receding now but still got another week of rain expected
Wunderbar! Oh, the memories! Isn't the area just idyllic? We have to MAKE ourselves stay away. But, we can recommend the Dolomites and Austrian Lake District - very lovely, but not quite up there with the Bernese Alps.
From TTATs Enjoy your trip. We have just one week of ours left. We arrived in Ebensee yesterday to a nice peaceful time in the Austrian lake district. It's now lovely temperatures so you should enjoy it.

Cooler now It seems your problems are with having your blog set as private.
We've had really hot weather until the last week when it rained and cooled everything down. It's hot in the south and cool in the north.
A picturesque village Island like, located on the west coast of mainland Greece, opposite of Lefkas and Kefalonia. The whole location spills out onto the spectacular waterfront beaches. Visit Paleros and book to your holiday www.palerostravel.gr
Unfinished buildings It is a pleasure to read your blog.
Me and my wife are going to stay in Paleros for two weeks in June. We have not been to Greece for about 10 years as we have been roaming around other parts of Europe on our bike.
From my previous visits I remember wondering about houses where e.g. two first floors were built, finished and painted and the third floor was only a few pillars of concrete and construction depris.
At that time at least, it was not a question of money. You built what you needed and continued when you needed more. Not beautiful, no, but practical.
And now, I will continue reading your blog. Cheers !
Home soon Great to read yer bloggs Robin and looking 4ward to having chats about your travels - we are just starting to think about our trip next year. Golf starts next week - so leave your ills in Japan so you are on to your game. Pete
Way home Hi Toolies
In Tokyo at mo leaving tomorrow for Auckland. A couple of days there then four days in New Plymouth before heading home on the 7 October. Really looking forward to getting home and seeing the kids and friends. You're in the wrong island!
Hope you are both well and we'll probably see you in December/Jan when we are down in the Sounds.
Love
Robino.
Bit of a bug Sorry to hear you're sick Robin. We've suffered here at home - Kaye has been at death's door for a full week (she's never sick, but has been flattened by the flu...just what we needed when moving house.
Sorry to hear about the wallet - what a sickening feeling losing stuff like that. At least it wasn't your camera like that other time!
I like the German enjoyment of meaty food - it would suit me just fine!
So you can't get decent news of the All Blacks. Shame, they've been outstanding - thrashing everyone. I have even been watching the games (and enjoying them). Our boys got a beating (physically, not in the score) from South Africa last night - a very punishing game. However, great to trounce them in the score - especially after they gave Aussie such a beating just a week ago!
Take care both of you - and don't lose anything else.
Rob
Ireland Hi there,
We checked out the location of Skerries and gather it's near Newgrange north of Dublin. If so, if there's time, check out all the historic ancient sites in the area. Very fascinating. We loved Ireland so have a great time!
Hope you're keeping the name of all the good hotels Good to get the latest. Definitely need a list of your hotels - since you have mostly had such good ones. We are of course waiting with great anticipation this morning to see the Americas Cup NZ only needing 3 more (as you probably know) and of course you may (or may not) have seen the SA AB game last night - a fairy torrid affair I thought with the number of injuries and yellow cards - one SA cut 2 so was off for the game then Keiran Read and then Nonu - NZ finished with 13 player and SA with 14 final score 29-15. Enjoy Ireland. Love to you both G & V
Yer blogging Really enjoyed reading the blog Rob. Have read up since Venice up to yesterday. I'm pleased I went to your Mum's funeral Lyn and was able to catch up with your kids. Everyone seemed to just celebrate your Mum's life and had accepted that her time was over much as it was when my old Mum died. Horrible weather here - cold and bloody windy. Les is in Ork for the week so it is just me and the dog - who has just wrecked all the pot plants on the verandah and spread soil all over the path - and dug huge holes in the back lawn all while I was having my lunch. Do you want a border collie pup - going real cheap!!!!
Keep in touch
Pete
From Nelson Hi there. We're so pleased that the video link worked for Lois's funeral. It is such a sensible thing to do than racing back here at great expense. I'm sure your Mum would have thoroughly approved.
Your blogs on Germany have been great and we thoroughly enjoy reading them as no doubt you did with ours.
Back here, we're in the throws of a storm putting ChCh yet again in the mire with damage everywhere. I gather that Wellington at present is getting it as it passes north. Here in Nelson it's a bit windy and changeable. Good old Nelson.
Good to hear your news again Hi Glad that you have been in such a good place to get the news of Lois's death. Guess the next couple of days won't be too flash but I know you've been to Koln before so sure you will have good contacts there as well. On a brighter note guess you didn't see the Americas cup race this morning - Team NZ first by 36 sec first race and first in second race 55sec or thereabouts. Also may not have heard that Oracle have been docked two races and 5 sailors cant race for various numbers of races and also a cash penalty (think $250K) all from their previous cheating. And of course the rugby last night - ABs 28-13 and SA beat Oz 38-12.
Also have friends who have just been to Albania - similar comments to yours although they were on a bigger tour I think. same friends had done a five day cycle tour down the Danube from somewhere 5 days away from Vienna cos thats where they ended up - apparently excellent - something for the future? ANyway thinking of you especially at the moment lots of hugs to Lyn
Not at all envious...Yeah, right! Hey guys
Great to keep hearing what you're up to - you lucky buggers. While you're sunning yourself in wonderful Europe, Kaye and I are freezing our arses off in rainy Wellington - moving house! I hope you feel guilty (not really).
Stay safe - keep taking pictures and telling us what you're up to.
Venice and Lyn's mum Enjoyed reading about Venice - it is probably 15 years since we were there and nothing much would appear to have changed - we too caught the early morning traffic on the canals and felt just as you did about it. Did you have a shot of coffee and a schnapps at that time of the morning with the locals? seem to remember we did on our way to the bus to the airport.
We have Swiss friend in Cambridge lived in NZ for 30 or so years and she would heartily endorse all you said about the Swiss - and yes the guard probably would have been smiling - Verena has nothing good to say about the attitude of the people in this beautiful country.
Have had contact with Heather and hear Lyn's mum has rallied - what a relief for you.
Continue the writing we are enjoying it and safe travels.
Well Otago had the shield for a week and now Hawkes Bay have it. You are also missing out on the \"American style\" election (accoridng to the press) for the next leader of the labour party and think you will also miss the beginning of the Americas Cup (7 - 23 Sept) with NZ winning Louis Vuton last week. Also missed part of the warmest winter on record in NZ, but great skiing at the moment.
Hope you have noticed the church n every corner in Venice and ventured into some of them and seen the very small mostly very old congregations at mass - wonder what wil become of all these churches?
Keep enjoying your time - hope Lyn\'s mum is holding up.
Love
vicki
We are Lyn and Robin - 60 and 70 something's - started traveling later in life when the kids were old enough not to care about where we were (in a good way).
Not adventure travelers but eager to see new places, meet people and enjoy new experiences.... full info
