An empty beach. Beige sand. Light-blue water. Waves forming a dancing surge. Coconut palms. And a white horse galloping further and further into anywhere, nowhere. Complete freedom. A trashy kitsch-movie could not be a better reality. And I could not have a better ending to an unforgettable journey.... read more

I can't imagine that there is any other place in Brazil that totally and utterly fulfills all the Brazilian cliches as much as Salvador de Bahia does: capoeira, colonial town, samba everywhere at night, beautiful beaches close by, great fish dishes, amiable people and caipirinhas all day long. Muito bem.... read more

It was absolutely worth to go to the Amazon rainforest a second time. The vegetation and surroundings in Brazil were very different from the ones I saw in Peru...the mirror forests...the moonlight shadows...the hammock on a tree...the sunrises...and sunsets...the company... In Peru we were convinced that the Amazon rainforest would be paradise if it weren't for the mosquitos. In Brazil there are no mosquitos in the rainforest because of the acidity of the water. And I found one of my true paradise. ... read more

Bogota meant meeting Julio again, a future globetrotter. And Virginia. Bogota meant getting to know Jhojhan, the T-shirt designer. And Miri. In Bogota we watched the final of the Copa del Mundo, and Colombia was supporting Spain. Fair enough! ... read more

This hike was a pure adventure. We tracked down hidden paths We walked through hip-deep river beds We passed by the round houses of the indigenas We slept in hammocks in open sheds And we were looked after by young soldiers When we finally reached the ancient stairs Leading us deeper into the jungle Above slippery stones Up and up the secret mountain And there we found the Lost City of Teyuna A downpour on the way back A heroe leading us across the wild stream As well as a dodgy cable car A climb through a waterfall in the pouring rain ... read more

When you head for the Caribbean coast you expect palm trees, beautiful empty white beaches and the endless beauty of the sea. You might also expect chilling in a hammock, doing nothing but relaxing for the rest of your life. But you might not expect a tropical thunderstorm when sleeping under the open sky. And that's exactly what happened to us in Tayrona National Park. And we got soakingly wet in our hammocks when the rain was pouring down from the sky and flashes and thunder were surrounding us. It was quite crazy, but it's definitely another South American adventure I would not want to miss! ... read more

Mompos makes you forget time. Stroll around the cobbled streets with horse carriages, along colourful buildings and you feel like being back in the 1500 when the Spaniards made their way to the New World. And while dreaming away reality in a rocking chair you enjoy the view of the Rio Magdalena floating by, the Mississippi of South America. "If I owe my life to Caracas, I owe my glory to Mompos." Well said, Mr Bolivar.... read more
