Kari, thank you so much for keeping me in the loop. I'm loving your blog and reliving the excitement and feelings of exploration of my study abroad through your travels and adventures. (You make me feel a bit younger than iI am.) I'm glad you are taking advantage of the opportunities around you! I am looking forward to seeing your smiling face and offering you a big hug when you do return!
walking on snow/ice You can walk boldly, you can walk timidly, or you can run and slide... but just think about this little sister...
EVEN if you fall... it is how graceful you are when you slip and fall and how quickly you can get your ass back up that matters. Learn how to handle the pain! And take it with a smile!
I LOVE YOU!
Blue Ice Alaska is awesome, isn't it? I just got back a few days ago and am now looking at everyone else's photos! I did an all day trip to Tracy Arm a few years back. I absolutely love the blue ice. Although I took tons of photos this recent trip, my best iceberg photos are from the trip a few years ago:

There's a link if you want to see more blue ice.
Like you I was on a small tour boat. Its really the way to go and get up close. I hope to go again someday and hope you do too!

I am so far behind on you!! Please catch me up on what you are doing these days, college, and life. I feel bad that I have not kept up better, it seems we only get to talk once a year. Hope to hear from you soon.

Kari, that's so awesome that you're in Norway. I went to the Harvest Festival today in Juneau and met someone from Trio, and she told me you were studying abroad. Best of luck, you are so independent and strong to step into a new world like this...I hope you have a lot of fun there.

PS I am leaving Juneau in a week (!!!) and know I will miss it SO MUCH...and I haven't even been here that long.
Anyways, email me and tell me what you're up to. :)
I have been to Tracy Arm numerous times Being from Alaska, I have seen first hand the effects of global warming. I have witnessed glaciers calve off in monumental proportions.
In fact, I found a disturbing, yet spectacular movie that shows global warming footage of calving glaciers. Huge chunks of ice breaking off into the ocean! You can find this film called “Alaska, The Tracy Arm Experience” on Film Baby HERE:

I highly recommend buying Alaska, The Tracy Arm Experience. Watch the glaciers disappear before your eyes and show your friends and family what is really going on in Alaska.
Hi BUGG!!! Please don't be sad. it breaks my heart when you are upset. =( I have been on top of the mountain with Dad, Christina, John, and Luke for the last five days out of nine. That's why I don't have my phone or I would call. I bet the wedding was beautiful and so were you. I love you!!!
Spoiled BRAT! The pictures were wonderful, the helicopter looked fun, the cruise ships even more inviting, but all of this missing one thing........ME! It's good to be spoiled....Love ya
Cool, sand dunes? I am in BC Canada on the Pacific. Yeah, we have more big rocks and not as many sandy beaches (all pebbles). White Rock is great. So cool, there are sand dunes on the Atlantic side? I guess the Atlantic ocean has been around longer so it's ground up all it's rocks already.
But really, tidal pooling? I am not sure if this is what Sharklady was talking about. But tidal pooling (or tidepooling) to me is NOTHING like whatever morTIMer described. It is looking for marine creatures along the shoreline trapped in little pools the tide leaves when it goes out. They are often hiding under medium sized rocks. I love looking for mini crabs and hermit crabs. Starfish are rare though. It is very fun.
Sharklady said the Carolina coast was flat ( : with no rocks), so she couldn't do tidepooling. See now?
wow Wow Bugg! I am so proud of you! That lake looks beautiful and the mailbox on the bow gave me the chills. Congratulations, you are an "Advanced Diver"!
Hi from Lisa B. Hi Kari - I'm happy to hear that you are having a great time. It's amazing what a freeway and a little sunshine can do for one's spirit. Hopefully by now you have figured out how to maneuver through the horseshoes. Hang in there and keep us posted. We're finally moved into our new digs. It's not so bad just really off the beaten path. Take care. Lisa B.
pretty I'm sure that the sun makes everything seem ok. Especially when you don't get to see it that often. There are sooo many beautiful places up there that I need to come visit hopefully sometime before you graduate!
WOW!! I am so happy you started to do these again. I used to look forward to your travel blogs all of the time. I am so proud of you and your research job. From the looks of it, I am still missing out on not traveling to Juneau. I really want to come up now and "find" stuff to do. Nature's beauty up there looks too good to be true. I love you and am very proud of you. Can't wait to see another one =)
