Hi All, How's things? Hope you are all fine and/or dandy. Yes I'm in Vietnam again, but I'm here for the next 4 months. Just to set some expectations, I'll say from the outset that as much as I'd like to be contributing something every week from Vietnam that will be guaranteed to be witty and amusing, chances are it will not pan out that way. The reality is travelling for business and travelling for pleasure are two different propositions and sometimes your days are not that different to what they would have been in Australia: 'So what did you get up to man?' 'Oh I watched tv.' 'No way! Really? So did I!' 'Yeah, it was cool wasn't it?' 'Yeah man, the thing I like about tv is, you know, you just sit there and ... read more

Evening all, How's things? Hope you're all fine and/or dandy. I must say I've been rather tired coming into the final week of my time in Vietnam, and am feeling a little burnt out. I find these short business stints rather difficult I guess because there's so much to deliver whilst you're here, so it's a bit non-stop. You do have to take breaks though, otherwise you will go postal and do something drastic, like I dunno, clean out the mini bar of its contents and then dance around your hotel room to kitsch 80s pop (not that I did that of course....). That being said, I'm feeling better this monday evening after taking the day off for a public holiday here. It kind of took me back to the nostalgia and more halcyon days of ... read more

Evening all, How's things? Hope you are all fine and/or dandy. For all those that aren't aware, I'm currently in Vietnam for work at the moment and will be for a few weeks. It's kind of a prelude to what will hopefully materialise into a long term stay, but we see how we go. I've been in vietnam for a week now, and I would have written earlier, but I must admit it's harder to work up the desire and inspiration to write when your mind is elsewhere for the most part (and by elsewhere I mean working). I have settled in reasonably quickly and have developed a fondness for Vietnam for one very simple reason: FOOD! My long days are thankfully broken up by 3 moments of pure bliss named breakfast, lunch and dinner. My ... read more

Hello everyone, How's things? Hope things are fine and/or dandy in your part of the world. It's been a while hasn't it? It's just that I've been really really slack. I am finally home now and to slightly mixed feelings as I begin to adjust to life back in Melbourne. I don't think I'm quite used to not having to walk everywhere at the moment which means i'm having trouble dispensing my new found energy. Perhaps I should consider some jumping-around-that-I-pass-as-dancing in my living room? Or maybe some Iron Maiden stylised riffing and jumping around that I try to pass off as playing guitar? Anyway, enough of what I'm up to during my spare time. (Before I begin, here are some Acknowledgements) This is the very last entry into what I hope has been an entertaining ... read more

Hi Everyone, How's things? Hope you're fine and/or dandy. This will probably be the last entry you'll get from me if you're in Melbourne, as I will be home soon, but if you're interstate or not in Australia, you may get another entry (possibly maybe...) When I last left you I was in Switzerland, but since then I have made it back to the UK, namely to get to Leeds Festival. Leeds festival, despite its corporate allegiances (it's sponsored by a beer company) is actually a really good festival. Granted there were a lot of teenagers around, but in most instances there weren't as many at the bands I went to see. Leeds is a nice size festival, where the site is not intimidatingly big, and it's busy without being overly crowded. It is however the ... read more

(Heavy paraphrasing here as I try and remember the lines from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) Young Willy Wonka: I'm running away, and I'm going to all the great candy making nations: Switzerland, Bavaria etc. etc. (I was watching it in Switzerland, and the whole cinema sniggered at the line. Louise, who was watching the film with me, is Belgian, and was a bit miffed that her country didn't get a mention. I'm inclined to agree with her) Good afternoon to all and sundry, How's things? Hope you're all having an uproariously good time :) It has certainly been a while (all of 2 weeks), but I can't say I've really had a chance, or been inspired to write until now. I'll warn you now, this is a long one, so it may be wise to ... read more

Veni, Vidi, Venezia, Roma and Firenze (I came, I saw Venice, Rome and Florence) Hi Everyone, How's things? Hope you're fine and/or dandy. Another entry ensues as I am motivated once more to sit in front of the pc after some much needed rest after Italy. I've just spend around ten days in Italy and it's an amazing place. It really has 2 great things that you hope all destinations will provide: - things to see and do, and - great things to eat I took the overnight train from Austria into Venice, which was ridiculously cheap (a mere 5 euros), but also ridiculously uncomfortable (a night spent 'sleeping' in one of those 6 person compartments when it was full). The bad night's sleep meant that my initial impression of Venice was a little unfair. It ... read more

Hi everyone, how long has it been since the last time I wrote? Probably not long enough for some of you :) I'm coming into the final furlongs of my journey now and the finish line is rushing towards me at a ferocious pace, but that's cool... After Heidelberg, I've made my way into Austria, not Australia (you'll be surprised the number of times I've had to clarify this since I've been on the road). My first stop was Salzburg, which is a beautiful and lovely city by all accounts, with numerous ye olde buildings and an imposing castle sitting on a nearby peak that overlooks the entire city. You can tell summer is definitely in full swing as the number of tourists is immense, with many many dollars to burn at all the boutique shops ... read more

Hi everyone, How's things? Hope you're good. Ok, this is kind of long but actually condensed, because I'm a little tired and hence a little lazy but I'm trying to fill you in. I suggest getting a coffee at halftime so you remain invigorated for the duration of your read :) Ok, due to a few requests of 'so really, what happened in Amsterdam?' I'll provide a few tidbits of what went on, but really, you won't be interested. Don't say I didn't warn you about this one :) Amsterdam is the land ruled by bicycles. Car, tram and pedestrian alike give way to the mighty cyclist. They don't slow down for anyone, and nor are they expected to. I'm actually surprised that there are not more accidents that occur given the number of tourists in ... read more

Hi Everybody, How's things? Hope everything is fine and/or dandy. From Berlin, I've headed south to Munich, but not before a short stopover in the small town of Wiemar. Weimar was an unscheduled stop, but one I'm very glad I did. Weimar ended up being a stop for a bit of inspiration and reflection. Weimar was inspiration because it was one of the cultural centres of Germany, which boasts former residents such as Goethe, Schiller, Bach and Liszt. I visited the Goethe house and museum (Goethe wrote 'Faust' and 'the sorrows of young Werther'), and judging from the residence I think it's becoming obvious you need to be a little eccentric in order to be great. That and you have to hang out with intellectual friends and talk and argue about art all the time. It ... read more
