| 27th February 2007 carmen | nice! - From: no job, no home...so why not go to Seoul? I enjoyed your blog of Seoul. You went through varies things you did and I love your adventure spirit! I didn't realize we could take a ferry from Korea to Japan, I'll definitly look inyo it! Thanx for sharing!! |
| 23rd January 2007 heatherinjapan | Ethan..... - From: Sayonara Japan, my home away from home Hey Ethan. I'm surprised we never ran into each other in Habu during weekly rounds to Saty. man I miss going there! how was the International School Day? I started working on that, but (obviously) didn't get to see it through. You know, I always thought you were an urban myth....only having 5 students and all!! haha. Are you staying in Japan for another round after this one? |
| 22nd January 2007 Ethan | Habu - From: Sayonara Japan, my home away from home Hey Heather, i've stumbbled across your entries more than once but I never realized that you had been living on Innoshima! I live way out on Uoshima, about an hour away from innoshima (pretty well known as one of the most rural placements on the jet program... 280 people, only 5 students, etc... do you know it?). Just yesterday i was out at the Innoshima International School day and probably saw a lot of your old students. They are a wild but cool bunch. Then I met up with the new jets out on In-to, jennie and angela. A good night of wandering around the Habu chinatown, karaoke, and picking up my weekly shopping at saty =) Hope all is well wherever you may have ended up. |
| 18th January 2007 Suteishi | Sayonara, and a bit of a boo hoo hoo.... - From: Sayonara Japan, my home away from home Heza san! Thank you for bringing closure to your blogs:) I really enjoyed reading the final installments of Heza in Japan. I especially enjoyed this last one. I remember my sayonara blog was bittersweet as well. How do you say goodbye to such a lovely, beautiful year and the people to go along with it? I outwardly sighed at your taking the ferry to work and the hot, green tea as "things I'm going to miss." Let's just hope there's lots of good adventures still to come! Stacey |
| 17th January 2007 Roothie | Days Gone By - From: Sayonara Japan, my home away from home Yes, you surely did have a great experience there this year and even though you may have struggled to leave it, you probably left a little bit of "Heather" back there too. You touched lives and made a difference in a way you will may never fully know. A wonderful opportunity and you gained a lot from it! |
| 17th January 2007 Roothie | Takes Me Back! - From: My Japanese obsession, purikura! Your mom and I did this once but in those tiny booths at K-Mart or some place similar! I would have liked that too, heather. You should start one here Japanese style! |
| 17th January 2007 Roothie | Dine Out! - From: Summer Festival Season! Well, Heather, you'll be dining out on that celebration for a long time to come! The festival of all festivals! I think I'd like to hang out at them, dance and take in the fireworks and food! Great pics! |

| 23rd July 2006 mom | another wonderful weekend - From: The Gion Matsuri in Kyoto It looks like you had a great weekend with linda and her cousin. The floats in the parade look amazing. I wonder what they would think of the Santa Claus parade? |
| 23rd July 2006 mom | spelling - From: Osaka: Karaoke, Coldplay and the Aquarium I found a couple of spelling errors! Don't forget to proofread. From your teacher mom!! |
| 23rd July 2006 dad | beer - From: where did June go?! I can't help but notice Heather how drinks especially beer seem to play such a big part of your Japanese experience! How lucky can you be? |
| 23rd July 2006 mom | you are lucky - From: Wakayama-ken It looks like you had an interesting day with your friend. She has taught you a lot about the culture. It was nice to have met Katayama sensei, please say hi from us. |
| 19th July 2006 Roothie | More and More! - From: The Gion Matsuri in Kyoto I'm beginning to think more and more that Japan is just festivals, gardens and temples! What is festival food? Was your internet cafe room cheap accommodation?!!! Cool idea. Have you decided yet where you will be next year? |
| 19th July 2006 Roothie | Different! - From: Osaka: Karaoke, Coldplay and the Aquarium I'm glad you got to a concert and witnessed such a different response. Certainly not what you've seen here at the ACC! We recently went to Bonnie Raitt the same night your parents went to see Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and that corner of TO was rockin'! Very cool jellyfish, and you're right, the penguins look like the ones on those ornamental skating rinks until you turn them on and they move! |
| 28th June 2006 heatherinjapan | Julia! - From: Tottori Beach Party hey julia! i don't think i saw you that night...at least, my extremely foggy memory doesn't remember! it was a good party though, eh? I hope you read this reply....i don't have a contact address for you! see you around! Heather |
| 28th June 2006 Julia Schuessler | Happy Birthday! Did I see you??? - From: Tottori Beach Party Hey Heather! Happy belated Birthday! | 20th June 2006 Roothie | More Posters?!!! - From: The Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace The kids steal the show again! What a cute pic of those kids..the girl in headgear is particularly classic....looks like an ad to promotefor travel to Japan. Is quite a stopper! No doubt you will be asked by many people, (including lots of teachers!) to come and do a presentation on Japan. You've go the whole thing right here! You can make a dvd of all this or power point...not that I'd know how!!!!! |
| 20th June 2006 Roothie | Best B-day Ever, Eh? - From: Tottori Beach Party Bet this will top birthdays of the past and future! How very special! A Happy belated b-day from moi! This post is one of the greatest..so interesting and just cool with excellent pics, as always! And, yes, I LOVE the sunset! Another poster in the making....you could make a collage of all the sunsets and frame it and maybe plack it. I love the chill out tent idea...we need to copy a few ideas of how to party! I might not ever leave the massage area! HA! I think this is one of your neatest experiences yet! |
| 20th June 2006 anonymous | - From: Tottori Beach Party Happy Birthday! |
| 13th June 2006 Roothie | An Honour - From: Heather , the rice planter? I'm not quitting my day job... What a neat ceremony to be a part of, Heather! An honour to be invited, too. One of yet, another fabulous memory you have of this whole Japan experience! What a marvelous book you'll have when you bind this whole travel blog together! We'll have to have a tea visit when you come back! Well, maybe a few cups, in fact! |
| 12th June 2006 Stacey | Great Photos! - From: Heather , the rice planter? I'm not quitting my day job... Heza san! It looks like you enjoyed a very "real Japan" kind of day! I guess we're just not suited for the agricultural life of Japan, as mikan picking was rather trying too! Thanks for the photos:) |
| 4th June 2006 Soloman | YAY! - From: The Great Wall Congratulations to Heather for climbing the Great Wall! It's considered a great pilgrimmage among the Chinese to scale the Wall; every Chinese person dreams of someday climbing the Great Wall, first built nearly two thousand years ago when the country was unified under one emperor. Heather, you're an honorary Chinese! |
| 4th June 2006 Soloman | Yay Beijing! - From: Ch-Ch-Ch-China!! Yay! Heather is in China! Great photos! I see you've hit up the entertainment district near the Summer Palace. Keep on blogging! |
| 25th May 2006 Roothie | What an Accomplishment! - From: The Great Wall Hey, I would have taken the chairlift UP! How many miles is the whole wall, I ask? Good to know the world of Commerce is alive and well and living on the Wall as well as everywhere else! Yikes! That's a lot of walking for no sale! I have no doubt that you will return some day to your adventures there! |
| 25th May 2006 Roothie | Photo Shoot! - From: The Forbidden City Now you know what it feels like to be a model at a photo shoot! Forbidden City is very old and interesting. I wonder how many people have viewed it and how grandiose it is inside? Their people must feel terrible about such a horror that happened at the Square. Hard to imagine for us something like that happening at Mel Lastman Square. Out of our realm of thinking. |
| 25th May 2006 Roothie | Great Description! - From: Ch-Ch-Ch-China!! I'd love to be shopping with you there! Lots of silk, eh? I think we should invest in exercise machines around our country....excellent idea. The little kid's picture looks like he suits the name you gave him! |
| 22nd May 2006 Stayshi | Ni Hao! - From: Ch-Ch-Ch-China!! Unfortunately this is one of the only Chinese phrases I know! So happy to see your pics and read your comments! | 17th April 2006 Roothie | Beauty! - From: I have cherry blossom fever! What a beautiful festival and reason to celebrate! We should have something like that here after the Looonnnggg winter! In the old days in Applewood Acres, we could have had "Apple Blossum Festival"! I cherry blossums smell fabulous...is there a perfume like it? (There used to be one called, "Apple Blossum". Wonder how the blue tarp tradition came about..guess it's just pretty damp on the ground still? Keep on taking those pics and preserving memories! |
| 17th April 2006 Stayshi | Oh la la! - From: I have cherry blossom fever! Hey Heather! Great pictures! Kirei, desu ne?! I love the picture of "Overlooking Onomichi and the Seto Inland Sea." Really pretty! Who says you have to travel far from home to engage in the magic of the sakura? :) |

| 19th March 2006 Roothie | Neat Stuff! - From: A catch up: special sushi, visits with teachers and a day at the Glass Museum Wow! I think they should have "Girls' Day" here too! Your stained glass looks excellent. You have done a lot of crafty and creative things there. What is in your favourite food? |
| 27th February 2006 Gill Jefferson | We're in Japan too...AND we're related. - From: Sapporo's Yuki Matsuri! (Snow Festival) |
| 23rd February 2006 neil | tamano - From: Beach Party!...but, where's the beach? hey, really interesting. I am looking for Ashley's new blog, and came across this. I am actually Ashley's neighbor in Tamano and heard about this huge trip to Takamatsu (I was supposed to be around for the weekend, but for some reason was elsewhere, can't remember why). Those are the first pictures I've seen from that weekend! Fantastic. If you're curious, check out the recent news on www.pallaver.blogspot.com Next time your in Okayama, lemme know. Actually, where in Japan are you stationed? I'm sure I can find it out actually, and will attempt to do so. Ciao, pallaver |

Off the dock or should you have had your cottage canoe with you? You must have been in fruit heaven, Heather! Ahh, the king parting traffic like Moses parting the Red Sea! (Is that right?) | 26th January 2006 Roothie | A Job Waiting! - From: Ikebana Hey, Heather, maybe Berns Flowers would hire you for weddings, Japanese style! Neat about the flowers pointing towards heaven. A lot of Buddhist and Japanese traditions are quite neat. I can see where they get trained in calligraphy, their language looks so pretty in printed form. A patient of Dave's, ('cause he has such typical terrible writing and printing!) gave him a calligraphy kit for Christmas. Yes, you guessed it!....He hasn't even opened it yet!!! I'm trying to get him to "Scrawl" a thank-you note to her with it!!! HA!HA! Love Roothie |
| 26th January 2006 Roothie | Party's Good Any Time! - From: Welcome party (four months late!) Sounds very cool! Just think what they'll throw for you guys as a good-bye! (Of course, if it's 4 months late, you might have to fly back for it! HA! Love Roothie |
| 26th January 2006 Roothie | Bring Back Ideas! - From: Arts & Crafts:Japanese New Year Decoration You will be a great resource for primary/jr art ideas for teachers here! These look so cool. So, they sweep out the old (Dust!) and in with the new clean look eh? Well, I hate to clean but I guess I could live with that custom as long as it's only ONCE a year!!! (Although I might not make the deadline date!!) Love Roothie |
| 26th January 2006 Roothie | Learning A Lot - From: Mt. Shirataki, Innoshima I guess you are learning much about Buddhism. Are most Japanese people of this faith? It sounds like a very gentle, all-accepting, overall spiritually kind religion, at least when you see and hear Dalai Lama speak on it! He is so sweet! Keep on learning...you are a huge sponge for this now! Keep on sharing it with us! Love Roothie |
| 26th January 2006 Roothie | Real Reason - From: International School Day Ah, that boy also came for the rice krispie squares! Sign me up for them too! I only took Home Ec. cooking in Gr. 7, 8, and 9 so I could lick the bowls and beaters!!! Love Ruthie |

| 22nd December 2005 Laurence McLean | Christmas Blog - From: It's Christmas...in the classroom! Hi Heather, Wow, a pink Christmas tree. Thanks for sending all the great pictures from Japan. You are quite a convincing Santa-San. I especially liked the white shoes....way cool. Silent Night and Jingle Bells are good starters, but have you tried "The Twelve Days of Chistmas" a la McLean Family style for you class? The pictures of the Innoshima bidge are spectacular. The fall colours are very similar to Ontario, although we certainly don't grow oranges like those. They look so tasty. The Tea ceremony sounds very complicated and precise (3.5 sips?), however it is nice to know that High School boys are same all over the world. We are getting together with all the family on Christmas Eve at Aunt Sue's then over at our house for Christmas Day. Then we are off to the Dominican Republic for a week's holiday. We will be thinking of you. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas. Bye for now, Uncle Laur. |

| 10th November 2005 Roothie | Sparse it is! - From: My apartment Yes, your apt. is far from the clutter we have so much of here! Guess that's we don't bother taking our shoes off at the door...we might never find them again!!! But things are at least neat and tidy and nothing clutters your mind but the tasks at hand...maybe that's why the Japanese people are so focused on their work!? Enjoying the pics! |
| 10th November 2005 Roothie | Wow! - From: (Heza) Lost in Translation Sounds like fun so far..you don't look all that tired in the pics but I'm sure your excitement kept you "up"! Looks like a bunch of neat people! Reading on.... |
