Meknes was a bit of a relief after Fes. The market is smaller, the sights are a bit less grand; but people hassle you less as you walk past their stalls. Also it has a large city square, a bit like Covent Garden with its street performers - snake charmers, herbalists, henna and musicians. We left Meknes on the night bus to arrive in a random Moroccan town, Midelt, at about 3am, where we shared the bus station with some local characters. A couple of buses passed full, so we chartered a taxi for the remaining hour's drive to Rich, where we arrived in time for dawn.
