Potala Palace

Tibet
We were heading to Tibet a few years ago and then there were restrictions that prevented that trip. We long to go. I would love to see this location.

Train trip...
We've never done anything longer than an overnight/14 hour trip, so I'm curious to know how I'd cope with this trip :) It was all sounding quite good until you mentioned the smoking... :( I've been eyeing off the Intrepid Travel version of this trip, but will look up the G Adventures one too. Momos! Yum! Can't understand why they aren't more popular around the world

The Barkhor
Wonderful to see pics of one of our favourite places...views over the Barkhor to the Potala from the roof of the Jokhang Temple. We had heard the Chinese since we were there were building a carpark that would impede the circumambulation around the Jokhang and security in the Barkhor was tight. Did you see any evidence of that? Great to see your blog of the delights of Lhasa...one of travels great destinations.

Potala Palace

Beautiful
I have seen many photos of this palace, but never realised the scale of it until I saw this photo. I love the calmness of the design, probably helped by all those white walls...

Many many sacrifices...
...well, not at the brewery, unless you consider the stout running out and not having the t-shirt I wanted in my size...haha...

Canuck on the move
It truly was a great itinerary, and the tour and folks on it were excellent...pretty impressed with G Adventures, lots of stuff seen but also a healthy amount of "do whatever you want" time which is always nice...plus we had a week after the tour to ourselves for some R&R...

Not too bad at all!
Ah the train ride, something I was looking forward to and enjoyed but was happy when it was over...left at 8pm, and we were in the hard sleepers so six bunks and no door...the gang wasn't all together either, we were fortunate that we were together and with two others, one of the gals was alone with 5 other locals...and squat toilets on a moving train were quite the adventure...haha...

Icelandic weather
Embracing the changes. We had a few days of unbelievable wind and sideways rain but it added a bit of mystery (and misery) to exploring. We decided to embrace it and have fun. Stunning vista after stunning vista.

Weather...
You really do have to embrace it and move on...we had rain in some form pretty much every day of the Ring Road except one, but overall it always seemed to stop whenever we explored a site along the way...to be honest I think it added to the experience and vibe to the place, can't imagine it without the rain! Thanks for all the wonderful comments, really appreciate it...

Iceland by camper van
A good choice. We thought about doing that but didn't. It certainly gives you lots of freedom to be near nature. Waterfalls and more waterfalls, each with their own unique beauty. The big ones are grand but we liked many of the smaller ones. Keep these fabulous blogs coming.

We really enjoyed it, the freedom was fantastic and a really good way to see the country...will be rethinking the way we normally travel...
