Anniversaries Let's see. 1992 for us. We used to have a record of where we were on every anniversary and what we did. Where did I put that record? I'm sure our 10th was not as memorable as yours. High adventure if not terribly enjoyable or romantic. You'll remember it on your 50th. If I'm around and you forget, I'll remind you. Happy Anniversary. A lot cooler here today than it was 10 years ago today. Likely a little warm there!
Would love to have seen pictures of the international 'clump' at the border crossing. I'd catch you up on the news but don't know much either. Have been with 1100 kids at Graceland all week and that was all the news I needed! Good kids. Good week.
Emily just got into an MFA Grad School program in San Francisco, so things are a little chaotic around here. We were supposed to leave for the Northwest today but that is getting delayed a bit!
YANKEES When you refer to pock remarks I assume that means bullet and cannon holes from the civil war and the recent war with Israel. I know I am right just checking. Thanks from a reader in Russia.
Happpy anniversary Hey Vals and Kyle,
Happy 10 year anniversary! Hope you do something exciting to celebrate:) Oh yeah, your in the middle east.
You guys must love to shop on your trips, Paul and I hate it. I would guess you are a good bargainer and strike excellent deals. I can't do that at all although Paul is good at it. Record low this morning on the last day of July! See you in a few days. Nancy
Good Stuff Hey Valeri and Kyle, I have been keeping up with your blog and have read all your entries so far. It is really neat to live vicariously through you guys! Thanks for all the great updates and keep the news coming!
Thanks for the blogs I am sure enjoying your blogs . . . makes me feel like I'm there . . . but right in the midst of my comfy house! Roy, bet you haven't found any krispy kremes! Oh, I cancelled Triple A -- my roadside service has changed to RC on the Road Again -- he looks so good changing the tire! Keep on havin' fun and experiencing "life on the other side." Ruth
sketchy That meat sounds very sketchy!!! I love the stories of all the good food you are eating (meatless, of course). We miss you, Valeri! Not sure if you got my e-mail that i sent you but my favorite thing so far is the picture of Kyle in the skirt. I laughed so hard I snorted :) See you soon! Jill
I get the food focus! I think one of the most wonderful part of traveling is experiencing the different cultures and food is a big part of cultures. Your description of the food sounds wonderful - I would want to get some cooking tips if I was with you.
Angus beef The good thing about travel like this is it makes you appreciate the good things you left behind - like Angus beef! I will pass on the pizza if I can keep my Angus beef! Kyle, you have my sympathies - when McD looks good, I know you must be really hard done by.
Re-entry dining at Shamrock I just heard that 'Grandma June' got a great deal on lamb (drought in the Rockies or something like that!) and, being the kind soul she is, has planned a re-entry dinner for Kyle with lamb in all its many preparations to help him with his transition back home from the Middle East. DRb
relief O.K. I admit I am glad you are back in Jordan, never was crazy about the Lebanon plans but that's just me. Tell Kyle Paul and I know exactly how he feels about missing beef!! We always head for the greasiest hamburger joint we can find when returning from overseas. Chinese beef?? Yeew, aka dog maybe? I'm rather amazed that you are eating the raw vegetables and ice. You are braver than I would be, if you haven't suffered any concequences yet guess you are safe.
You might like to know that we were trying to beat rain as we baled alfala and prairie hay today. Paul and I finished putting square bales of alfalfa under sheds in pouring rain and Randall didn't win the race in finishing the prairie hay baling. Take care, Nancy
Food on the brain... Ok, now I'm craving some middle eastern food for dinner tonight! I love your in-depth descriptions of the food - fantastic! By the way, what's up with all of the drinks from McDonald's?
Certified Mediators need retraining Julia and I had fun IM'g about your display of anger. Julia said there is a breaking point for anyone who travels abroad without the condition of being in protected/guided tourist arrangements. She has lived it and observed it more than once, receiving a remarkable comment by a Brit when she succumbed one time. The photo of the lamb butcher shop reminded me that Kyle and I share the avid lack of interest in lamb. Thanks for these blogs.
Food I'm going way out on a limb here but would guess that the old guy is in charge of meal time and content!!! How many dozen donuts did you buy and were they cheaper by the dozens??? Les
Amazing... Hi Roy! I've been following your travels and all I can say is WOW!!! While I do think that you, your daughter, and her husband are slightly crazy to travel in such dangerous places, I also have to admire your sense of adventure! I've enjoyed the pictures and blog entries as you make your way from one frightful place to another. Be safe and enjoy the rest of your trip. (Oh, and make sure you keep an eye on your wallet since we know there are experienced pick-pockets lurking around in the places you visit.) We can discuss the finer things in life when you return to the states. :)
Incredible stories! Since i was off all weekend ihad to get caught up on my blogs! I read them all this morning. What incredible experiences you are having. Talk about getting out of your comfort zone. I am so glad that of all Americans they meet it is your three. If anyone can help them get a more positive viewpoint it would be you guys. thnaks so much for helping us look better. (By the way, I would have dropped the f-bomb at that cabbie, too!) Love you all!
Joan
Donuts fix everything! WOW! That is crazy (and I'm talking about the fact that Roy actually patiently waited that long for coffee, not the near-fights and verbal altercations...:))! Sounds like some people in Beirut must have attended Dwight Schrute's School of Shunning--hopefully you will be "unshunned" soon and you can enjoy the rest of your trip with all the coffee you can handle!
Sorry I didn't comment earlier. Valeri, please let Roy know that I was out making matches and saving the world, 1 child at a time. I promise I will do better in the future. :)
