We got up early in the morning and packed again! We so need to remember not to unpack all our things at the next stop!! Max dropped us off at the train station where we took the metro into the city. we had to then take another metro to get to the main train station for the outward bound trains. Rushing so we made our train on time, with our heavy bags, we had to go down millions of stairs, only to discover we were on the wrong platform, so back up the millions of stairs and down the next set of stairs, panting, terrified that we were going to miss our train, exhausted we eventually boarded the metro that would take us to the main station. Keeran was dead on her feet...she could barely manage ... read more

Keeran: After that bad meal, we headed back to the city of Rome to do the walking tour. It was Sunday & the streets were closed to traffic and there were just people walking everywhere, & some even riding horses. It was just so nice...and to make it even nicer we saw some hot guys break dancing on the road. then mom wanted a fruit, so we went to a fruit vendor to get an apple, but the price was so shocking we quietly turned and walked away(5euro-R55 for 1 apple) - despicable!!(disgusted face). We then saw some ancient ruins, walked all the way to the Trevis fountain again in the daylight and then headed back to Max's apartment, starving as usual!! We walked down each street in search of food until we came to this ... read more

Keeran writing again today: Battling to wake up in the cold so early in the morning, mom dragged us out of bed and said 'If your'll wanted to sleep then url should have just stayed in SA!' Taking lessons from the previous night, we togged ourselves real warm and set off for VATICAN CITY- the home of the Pope. Max wrote the directions for the metro which were very complicated because we had to know the stations as well as the direction the train was going in. Vatican City was AMAZING! Picture this, you are walking thru Rome and then you suddenly walk into a different world! One moment you are in a busy city and the next you find yourself in a huge plaza surrounded by beautiful towers and monuments. Actually we didn't know this ... read more

Today Keeran's writing: We do not realize how cold it is and therefore dress for a South African niteclub(as Max only told us he is taking us to a niteclub) Krisel and I are excited as we have never been clubbing before!!! We are all wearing pumps(flat, tiny thin little shoes), walking the streets of Rome and freezing our toes off! Still starving, we all get into Max's car and he takes us to a pizza bar ( not a bar where they sell alcohol, just a place for pizza only) where we taste our first Italian pizza...and guess what...all the pizza had yummy chips on them:) but the pizza tasted awful not like our South African pizza - all spiced up - this was bland, just a thick tomato base with cheese and topped with ... read more

Our flight into Rome was really lovely as almost the entire plane was empty and we could each take window seats and make beds out of them. At the airport in Rome, we picked up our luggage and tried to find a shop to buy a European sim card for my cell phone as we needed to contact our hosts in Europe. After a hell of a lot of trouble we finally managed to find Max who was waiting for almost half an hour in the airport parking for us. I had initially not had a host in Rome as I was under the impression Rimini was near Rome and so I had only arranged accomodation in Rimini, but lucky for me when I was planning the trip, I had an Italian cser stay at my ... read more
