Pandas & potatos (should it have an "e"??)
Hi Clare, Fun stuff. I lost the link but now I've started reading your blog again. Entertaining reading. I did not know Chinese cuisine had potatos. Last night we went to your house for dinner... your mom's a good cook, so you can blog about her food when you get home. We went to the U yesterday to see Obama -- very loud, and then today, a women's volleyball match -- also very loud. But both fun. Sounds like a wonderful time. See you in a couple months. Brenna is just home from an ultimate tournament.

the subway will be sort of close, but it is going to go to the ikea store so it will be worth the taxi ride to get to the station!

mooncakes are everywhere! even not during the mid-autumn festival. personally, I hate them. They are a really good idea in theory--cake with filling, but the filling is red bean paste instead of chocolate or something delicious. But a lot of people do like them, so I wouldn't say they are completely equivalent to fruit cakes!

moon cakes?
There was a story on Marketplace yesterday about the mid-autumn festival and moon cakes. Seems they are such a big deal that they've become their own special kind of currency. Have you run into moon cakes? Are they delicious? Or are they the Chinese equivalent of Christmas fruitcakes?
