The Treasury

Red rock magic!
How great that you saw 2 of the new Eight Wonders of the World on this trip. Like you, I've wanted to go to Petra forever--fabulous that it was even better than you imagined. I love that sense of emerging from the red rock and, through a sliver, seeing the Treasury--brilliant. Great too that you saw their their water pipes, drains and canals--we Californians could learn from them. While the donkey ride sounded a bit wobbly, the hokey carriage ride at the end of the day sounded fun. Glad you got to enjoy a cooking class and impressing the chef with your expert dicing--bon appetite!

I am enjoying traveling with you so much that I hope this never ends. I had a chuckle over the "anchovy swarm". They have the same type of persistent swarm here at the airport in manila. They are taxi hawkers trying to get you to take flat rate taxis st 5 times the price. As I'm usually the only white guy I get dozens of them hassling me while I'm in line for the metred cabs. Enjoy the rest of the trip and I'll give you a call when I get back home in late April.

Just stunning
Brendan this is the stuff my travel dreams are made of. I've always been in awe of Petra, and your descriptions make me want to go sooner rather than later. We try to do a cooking class in every country we travel to, it's such a fun way to get to know new ingredients. The food looks great!

It really was stunning
Thank you very much Ren. Petra was more than I had imagined. I hope it bumps up your list. And yes, the cooking class is something I try to do as well. It is fun plus I always pick up a few ideas. Can't wait to read about your next trip.

A way with words
"Alone I walked, the limpy gazelle without his protective anchovy swarm." You certainly can turn a phrase. Nice descriptions. Love the blog...eager to hear what happened next.

I enjoy painting a vivid word picture
My writing is similar to my speaking, so tends to be full of unusual phrases. I am looking forward to reading your take on the next few countries on your trip.

Fond Memories
I loved Jordan and Petra was amazing. I did a lot of hiking that day, including up to the Monastery which was difficult! I loved reading about the cooking class - wish I could have thought to do that. Looks like a fun trip.

And the same of your Peru trip
Thank you for the nice message. I read your trip to Peru and enjoyed seeing things through your eyes. I do wish the trip to Colca Canyon had been better for you. Enjoy your trip to Iceland.

Avenue of Sphinx

Wandering Alone on the Avenue of Sphinx
We were in Ethiopia when the Arab Spring began in Tunisia and been somewhat discouraged from venturing to Egypt since then due to unrest in that country. But your reports that it is now safe put it back on the radar to do so. Be safe Brendan and enjoy the ride.

Avenue of Sphinx

I hope you will be able to visit
I think you would enjoy the country as well as the people. This was a great trip and I am glad I was able to share it with friends around the world.

Overload
Hi Brendan Yes I can see all,the history , info and ruins would give anyone overload... And good tip about the felucca trip, I like a boat ride on my travels so good to hear that 4 hours was enough... Wolves in Egypt ??? Every traveller need some downtime , reading and relaxing by the pool . Look forward to the next episode of your adventures. Lynne

We certainly did it all
I am glad you are following along with us on this trip. Are you planning on heading this way? I would highly recommend it. I enjoy a boat ride, but this one didn't go anywhere. No wind, no go. Thanks for the comments, I very much appreciate them.

Lucky in Luxor
Sounds like the crowds are down, some hotels closed but that sounds like lucky you to me. To score a pic on a fine day like this with no one around has gotta be grand. Now the balloon flight over the Valley of the Kings...is it definitely a must way to go?

Avenue of Sphinx

Wandering Alone on the Avenue of Shpinx
We were very lucky in Luxor. Being taller than most I am usually able to shot pictures above crowds, but you are right. There would be no way to take this shot with crowds of people. Have you and Denise been to Egypt?

Tomb Painting

Hot Chicken Soup and Hot Air Balloons
This leg of your journey seemed quite pleasant compared to the wild west of your first part. While you may have been "templed, tombed and ruined", you also had a memorable meal, your first hot-headed balloon ride, luxurious lounging on a pool in the Nile, and came to appreciate your decision not to felucca it for days--well-done. Love those tomb paintings and carvings--still so clear and vibrant!

Tomb Painting

The leg is done
This leg of the trip was quite different from some of the others. It is always nice to have some rest after a marathon adventure. Looking back I can honestly say that I wouldn't have changed much about this trip. It was spot on to what I wanted.

Missing you, but feeling connected via blog!!
Hi B. Have a day off and enjoying your blog and coffee. Your claustrophobic crawl woke me right up! How I love your descriptors! LOL. Glad to see you enjoying yourself. You must be exhausted. Thank you for the trip to a foreign land via your blog. Travel home safe! xoxo

White Desert
Hey there, I am a friend of Dave and Merry Jo's. Fun to read your blog as well. I loved the photo of the desert showing the size of the formations compared to the truck.
28th February 2016

wow
You have a fantastic way with words. It makes it sound like your there with you. Great blog.

Someone give that boy some coffee!
How lucky were you to score your own cabin on the overnight train? Good work. Sorry the sunrise festival was a fizzer, but you guys did very well to be polite and go along with those plans. The tour company may need some feedback that 11:30pm starts need to come with a calmer driver, blankets and coffee on arrival :) Hope your hotel room in Luxor was comfortable.
28th February 2016

Coffee, please and thank you.
You are very right about the tour company. I think since this was a twice a year thing that it went right over their heads. As you well know, perfectly laid plans can go awry while on the road and we smile (sometimes later than others) and keep on going. Thank you so much for your comments. I am happy to hear from you
