okay, about the food. when I embarked on this journey around the world, I decided that I will try local foods as much as possible including meat dishes (except in India where I can be vegetarian & still taste everything). the food in SA is as fascinating as its history. I've been trying to find partners for hiking, rock climbing & sailing. I've only found hiking info so far. (can't do anything alone, 'cause it's too dangerous) craigslist for Cape Town is not used much, what's more active here is Gum Tree. There is also a hiking club that meets every Sunday (Meridian Hiking Club), the Mountain Club of South Africa, and Cape Union Mart (a store like Mountain Equipment co-op) organizes hikes and trips--just pick up their Cumhike Programme at one of their outlets. As expected, I've learnt a bunch of things here that had I known before I came, would have saved me a lot of headache & money. I guess I could have spent a lot more time researching & preparing my trip but didn't really have time. I guess time=money. the only part of my trip I was apprehensive about was getting from the airport to my couchsurfing host's place and I was totally right. sorry, this is the first time I'm on the internet long enough to enter a blog, so I'll have to back track a bit. Nov 25, flew from Buffalo airport--took the Megabus from Toronto--we were at the border crossing for 1.5 hrs! lucky my flight was much later. Nov 26, my cheap ticket included a 10 hour wait at Frankfurt so I went into town. the metro from the airport to downtown train station was only 3 stops! the transportation system is mind-blowingly organized, efficient and convenient (but super expensive). wondered around downtown Frankfurt & came completely by accident to the [View Full Entry]
