Both in kaunas, Lithuania, and in Liepaya, Latvia, the main mode of public transportation is the mini-bus. I find them fascinating, and surprisingly practical as long as you know how they work and know your way around town (which I certainly did not in either of these cities, but usually I would just ask people what to do). The mini-bus is like an oversized van, one that seats about 15 people with a raised roof so that people can come in and out easier than they could in a normal van. There are no designated bus stops for the mini-buses, they simply have a route that they run and you can board a minibus at anytime, anywhere.
