You can all breathe a sigh of relief - no more blogs about boring, familiar places like Manchester. We're going exotic again this time, rewinding 3 months and returning to South East Asia for the 4 weeks we spent in Indonesia. It already seems like an awfully long time ago, but we're determined to properly finish this blog and bring our travelling memoirs to a suitable end (James also desperately wants to get his readership numbers back up after the Manchester all-time low). In order to cover our Indonesian exploits we have to begin on a stormy evening in late April. Standing outside Kuching airport, nervously watching giant forks of lightning splintering across the cloudy night sky, the very last thing either of us felt like doing was climbing aboard a flimsy, metal box and getting ... read more

Us again, this time with a handful of photos covering our short time in Borneo. This blog's a bit of a wildlife extravaganza - featuring giant flowers, endangered primates and rare monkeys. But these are some of our favourite photos from the entire trip so far, and we're very happy with a couple of the Orang-Utan snaps. So, get clicking & enjoy some of the most unique, elusive, and endangered flora and fauna the world has to offer..... PS. We're home in 3 days - hope the 'welcome back party' planning is going well.... xxx... read more

Borneo was something of an unknown entity for us; never firmly on the travel itinerary, but directly on our route between the Philippines and Indonesia. After a little background reading we realised just how unlike anywhere else in South East Asia Borneo is, and an excursion here (no matter how brief) could be really special. So, decision made, we booked a flight from Manila to Kota Kinabalu. KK is the largest city in Sabah (Eastern Malaysian Borneo) and the gateway to Kinabalu National Park - home to Mt. Kinabalu (at 4095m, the highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea). There's not much to see in the city itself, but it's a pleasant enough place to stay for a couple of days, featuring plenty of laid-back traveler hang-outs, modern shopping malls and tempting coffee shops. Ah... alliteration - and an amazing amount of it in the last few blog entries. It is, of course, unquestionable that everyone loves such impressive wordplay, but even we're beginning to find this literary tomfoolery a little tedious. So, you have our word(s) that the next blog title will be free of any alliteration, or dazzling wordplay of any kind. But, until that time, here's the best of the bunch from our shed-load of Filipino snaps. The Philippines has probably been our favourite country of the whole trip so far. As such, we hope these photos do it justice, and that you enjoy viewing them almost as much as we did taking them.... Coming soon - our Malaysian Borneo blog..... x... read more

An epic journey has taken place over the last week or so; we've been constantly on the move, over Indonesian land & sea, and through many far-flung, internet-free towns and villages. As a result, we've been unable to conclude the Filipino chapter of our adventures. But now, with a days rest and a quick internet connection, its high time to finish telling the tale - sorry to have kept you all waiting so long! We left you last boarding a bus back to Manila, after our exhilarating, whirlwind romp around the countries Northern region. Fortunately, there was no repeat of the Sagada to Vigan episode, and our bus arrived in Manila a little before 6am - bang on time! Rather annoying actually, as no restaurants were open yet and we had to settle for a gourmet ... read more

Ahhh.... the Philippines, we're reminiscing already - our 3 weeks in this wonderful country went by far too quickly, and plans are already being drawn up for a return trip. After more than 4 months in predominantly Buddhist and Hindu countries, it was a refreshing change to visit somewhere with a majority Catholic population. One thing we've observed during our travels is the huge extent to which a Nations main religion shapes that country and its people; influencing everything from the architecture, to the cuisine, to the inhabitants dress, and also their attitude towards us. In this respect, the Philippines is a godsend (excuse the pun); the people are so friendly and hospitable, there were no occasions or occurrences in which we felt at all uncomfortable. Its not that all the other countries have been unwelcoming, ... read more

Back due to popular demand, we are overjoyed to present Funny Photos: Part Deux! Its been a long time since our last, and only, other installment, and there have been many opportunities for humorous picture-taking since. As a result, this entry proudly boasts a total of 38(!) rib-tickling images to make you giggle, guffaw, and maybe even gasp. So, hold on to your sides, and let the laughter commence....... Or nearly, first a very quick message about our last blog entry. It seems that James' attempt to be clever with the title - overly-subtly playing on the popular phrase 'a picture says a thousand words' - mislead most people in to assuming it was just another boring text blog of a thousand words. As a result, and much to Hannah's amusement, not many people have looked ... read more

.....and almost one picture per word in this bumper photo blog! We've had a day in limbo, waiting for a flight from Manila to Palawan in the Philippines, so we've finally found time to add some images to accompany the previous two text entries. Almost twice as many photos as any previous effort, covering our entire 3 week Vietnamese adventure, and the shorter stints in Laos and Chiang Mai! Still, no need to rush, take your time, enjoy........ read more

Just a quick note before we get down to business - we've noticed this website has been pretty temperamental of late, so if it doesn't let you look at our blogs the first time you click the link, wait a few hours, or until the next day, and it should work again. Apologies for this, if you missed our last monster blog, you can still find it by searching our blog history. It is a rather long one so, combined with this entry, you make have to take a whole day off work to read them both. But, why not? Everyone loves a day off! I digress...... Straight back with another installment - hopefully we'll get right up to date this time! We arrived in Vientiane late on the 7th of March, with just enough ... read more

The mothers have been and gone, as have 2 whole countries, since we last had time to update. This means there's an awful lot to catch up on - are you sitting comfortably!? Our first full day in Ho Chi Minh City was Valentines day, so the two of us went for a suitably romantic stroll around some of the cities main sites; managing to squeeze in the Municipal Theatre, Ben Thamn Market and The Fine Arts Museum, plus long visits to the Reunification Palace and the War Remnants Museum, before it was time to pick up visiting mum number one from the airport (once she'd finished scoping out the best duty free deals). For those who don't know, Carol is James' mum; she is youthful exuberance personified, but recently remarried - so hands off, guys! ... read more
