Cheaha Mountain
Happy Birthday Katie, I meant to wish you an early bday wish but the bumble bee landed in the front seat of the truck when we were talking and I got distracted! Turner McGehee, who hails from Talladega got struck by lighting on Cheaha Mountain when he and his boyscout buddies were camping up there. Wheeeha!! This has been such a treat following your adventures... and Karina and I just enjoyed youre " Best of ... " rundowns. Look forward to seeing ya!

Still lovin' this!
You guys have found the perfect way to share your remarkable trip with us in little, sustaining doses which leave me wanting to hear more, instead of facing the inevitable dull-eyed audience when one attempts to download a whole trip on friends at the end of the road. I love petroglyphs! I love hot springs! and canyon lodges! what a yummy adventure. Thank you so much for sharing it with us... On my journey now, in Rochester it is was a balmy 75 degrees today, and I was wearing the Georgia clothes that were not warm enough to wear down there! We have swept through Mom and Dad's life (Maya, my brother Bill, and I) with shopping trips for new clothes and underwear (Mom's down from size 16 bto 8 petite!), culling of the catalogues, and a complete check-up with the lawyer providing wills, health proxies, and Powers of atty. Whew! And we switched nursing staff to monitor Mom's pill usage, wt, and bp. Along with lots of eating out. How I long for my own kitchen. Wes is home ushering in spring at the nursery after we did a fairly successful show at Calloway Garden. I'll be home 4 days (income tax), and then off to Philadelphia to care for Wade and Ingrid while Gayle's parents get a break. Drive carefully, and paint a little petroglyph on the "Gypsy Outhouse" ?? xox Sharon

I've begun to feel the absence of you two and so I am glad that you are on your way home. More glad that you have taken the time to have this adventure. We've been playing a lot of music and some dancing and that is when I felt your absence most. I've got spinach coming up and thought to share some with you and then I realized you were in some exotic setting out west still. Paul and I went to NYC and played table tennis at some of the clubs uptown and in the village. Fun. Lots of live music on the street and in Central Park. Stayed with our friend, Rick. Took Amtrak and that was a front row seat at the melting pot. All good. Read "Jayber Crow" by Wendell Berry and think it might be one of the most amazing books that I have ever felt. Love to you both and how natural it is to get a tad testy when you are with each other 24/7. Thank goodness Steve has all that mediation training. Or maybe a good flat out bout might feel refreshing..... See you soon, Diane

That is so cool!!!
The concert sounds magnificent!!! I looked closely at your pictures for my brother who is a homeless person in Austin. He looks like the cool dude but his hair is longer and lighter plus one of his legs has been badly burned. He rides his bike everywhere and lives in a park under a lean-to with several other homeless people. He called last week, but I was not home to take his message. He must have borrowed a phone from someone in the crowds. Other than the weather, the concert sounds awesome.

Now you know why the US govt had such a time corraling the Chiracahuas. I have a couple of wonderful books about them you might wnt to borrow when you get back. You will love Lady Bird's place in Austin. And you may luck into bluebonnets blooming along the roads. Love, Barbara

I was there, too.
Your trip has sounded like great fun and so many wonderful places to see. We went to the Gila cliff dwelling on one of our cross country trips either 1976 or 1983 - can't remember which, but they were most impressive. I'd like to stay in the little inn you found. So when you return, are you going to give tours? The Gila Lodge sounds wonderful with the hot springs close by to use. Val and I need a change of pace and you two are setting a wonderful example for us.

Where are the words?
Hard to believe places like this exist on planet Earth. The petroglyph is stunning!!! The cave shot also amazes me. I can only imagine the legs on the people who climbed up there on a daily? basis. Thanks for sharing these with us. BTW, the weather this past weekend was dreamy...however, the next front is already upon us. We need some rain, tho. Come for dinner next weekend! Love, Deb
