Itinerary
Yikes, what an itinerary! I hope the travel is smooth, and the breaks and layovers are enjoyable. Keep your earmuffs handy for the final leg. It's very wintery.

BURNS
As a youngster....(too long ago to say the date:(.......I LOVED, ADORED, CRAVED....the "1st burn" pf the sun-season here in the Willamette Valley. With my blond hair and blue eyes...I would play in the water.....and get out and slather on BABY OIL! Lay out for a while; get back in the water and repeat the ritual for 3-4 hours. I didn't give a second thought to the PEELED PIGMENT FROM MY NOSE- now perpetually pink; or the blisters that covered my face, upper back, stomach, and legs. My mother would cover me in shaving cream....one side at a time; I would flip after about an hour. Interesting how sheer MISERY was not felt between the ages of 15-28ish.....:).

Almost--a Yellow-butted neuronhead. And the burn looks more dramatic than it actually is.
23rd February 2011

Ouch
"Dendrocephalus fulvoventus" Did you just call that bird a big butted neuronhead? Sorry about your burn!

That's what makes being a therapist so exciting.

I'm more conservative when I'm traveling alone. I love reading your comments--I don't release most of them for posting because they have personal information in them, but I appreciate yor interest and engagement!

I'd enjoy being here with you. You'd have had fun with the HIV training. The weather has been milder (not the temperature, which has been in the 90's during the day, but the humidity, which has been noticeably lower). My hotel is on Street 240 right by Monument Books and quite convenient. How is your training? Is it what you expected? E-mail me if you don't want to write about it in an online comment box!

I miss SE Asia!
Hi Shoshana! I'm having so much fun reading your blog on my very slow/inconsistent Internet. It's so interesting to read about how your HIV awareness training is going, as well as the rest of your trip. I have a terrible craving for dragonfruit now! I'm looking forward to going back someday!

Sex w/a monkey......
Shoshanna, Are there still people who believe having sex with a monkey started HIV? And by the way.....great Comment line to catch ones attention.:) I do not see you draped in a......GIANT SNAKE this trip:). Lucretia

Food
Those are beautiful looking spring rolls. And, even being a huge mollusk fan, I have to agree, eating a "sun roasted" shellfish seems like a bad idea. It must not be totally lethal, or they wouldn't do it, but ....

as much as you can about birds please!

Shoshanna, Sorry to hear you're not up to your usual "sparkly" self.:) I have been sick all week too....actually since last weekend. "This too shall pass." Anyhoo.... I look forward to seeing your posts. No doubt you will have some AMAZING things to share. Take care and be safe. Lucretia

Good reminder
Shoshana, You are the "EPITOME" of "teacher." Your thoroughness and comprehensive sharing amazes me. I understand that you are in fact a professor. But I would venture to guess that your open willingness to share so much of what you know, which may certainly help many other people, is not universal to professors. I appreciate all of the hard work that you put into all that you do for us (your students) and obviously, others as well. I am already feeling sad looking toward the end of next school year and not being your student. Lucretia Lake

I'm relieved ...
... to find out that a black baza is a bird, an interesting bird with a very interesting crest (or whatever). I love reading all your entries, and marvel at how you keep your three or more parallel activity streams flowing. -- Lowell

Mints
Oh, don't forget the mints or gum. Very important travel tools.

I think for the same reason we eat potato chips. I didn't taste much but salt and oil, but a woman who ate the abdomen (I only tried th legs) said it tasted like crab and ate two. I was unable to master my gag response in order to eat the whole spider.

Hello
Hi Shoshana, Just a quick note to let you know that I've been reading and enjoying your blog. I hope the remainder of the trip goes well, and you have a smooth trip back home. Love, Becca

Have a good trip
Have a pleasant trip back! Best wishes for decent and civil co-travelers, good weather, safe flights, and good connections!

Good try!
"Well, maybe not." I don't blame you Shoshana!:) You were much braver than I just giving it a try. I do wonder though, is there actually a "flavor," or do people eat these just because?
