Thanks for posting these pictures I was born in Hohhot, left 16 years ago and have never been back, sometimes I really feel homesick, craving for pictures from that place, thanks for the pictures...
Thanks! Yes, all these photos are mine. I learned a lot about my camera taking these pictures, like how to get extreme close-ups of plants. The one I'm most perhaps most happy with is the foxglove, as far as the close-ups go.
Animal sounds: also completely different/exotic, mostly birds. Look up Tui, Pokeko, fan-tails and other birds of NZ and take a listen; really amazing.
I really enjoy the set up of these entries. Are all these photos yours? They are well placed and shot. The plant life in New Zealand is said to be extremely exotic. I was curious as to the ambient animal sounds. Is there distinctive difference in animal sounds between NZ and the US? Like entirely different languages?
Thanks! Thanks Adele! I wanted to blog the trip months ago, but didn't make the time. May take a few installations to do it justice! (and that description is one that I took pains to memorise, as evidenced in this entry, ha!)
Good times! Enjoyed this account Sam. Brings back good memories and a great way to describe glow worms to the uninitiated. Will have to memorise that one!
This photo is now on the Front Page. The Featured Photos only stay there for a short period, so likely you will miss it. They show on the top right of the Front Page. :)
A nice sum-up Sam, I enjoyed this blog very much - it was wa great going-home account, with many a truth in it. I hope the re-entry will be smooth for you!

I really enjoyed your post about watching the World Cup in China, and I'm quite impressed with your "tree hospital!" My blog is looking for travel photos, reviews, etc, to share. If you have the time, check it out at dirty-hippies.blogspot.com, or email me at dirtyhippiesblog@gmail.com. Continued fun watching the games!

Enjoyed! I am a food person too ... I often search out a BBQ joint when I am out on my adventures and then write about them in my blog. I really enjoy reading you blog.
Congratulation ! I congratulate you for being the "Unknown traveller of the week" but of course this comes with an Obligation:
Continue writing about chines food.
cheers Walter
You might just be following in Austen's footsteps--this blog is very eloquently written--and to make you feel better you have me beat--I have only read half of Pride and Prejudice--don't tell you mother--I haven't even watched the movie in entirity and I know she would not approve! :) Maybe I will pick up a copy and read it on the way to Italy!
Haha, yes I like food, and here it is all new and different for me, so I like to write about it and "share" it as part of the experience. Usually any significant excursion with friends occasions a large meal - it is part of how Chinese folks show their hospitality.
Thanks for reading! Take care - Sam
You like food! Hi Sam, I like your Blog but it is easy to notice that you like food, for at least you mention it very often. I keep following you!
I wish you a nice spring!
cheers walter
Thanks! Thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your knowledge! It is so interesting that such geographically distant cultures have some very similar practices. Do you happen to know what the carved poles here in Inner Mongolia mean? I have seen a few that vaguely resemble Tlingit totem poles.
I lived in Huhehaote, Inner Mongolia - "The Blue City" - for 13 months. I now live in my home state in the USA, where I have reconnected with my romantic interest; where I am working to make a little money; and where I am dreaming of travelling again, writing a book, and/or going to graduate school in Chinese Language or Asian Studies.
Hobbies: reading, writing, watching movies, doing martial arts when I have the time, blogging and Facebooking when I shouldn't.
