Thailand was the first exotic tropical destination for Joca and me. We traveled from Belgrade to Bangkok over Moscow, by Aeroflot. It was the cheapest but I would not recommend it (airport is depressive and not heated during the night when we had to change flights, so it was a real Golgotha to arrive home). We booked a hotel over agency for the first two days to be on the safe side, but much better and cheaper accommodation can be found on spot (around Khao San). Bangkok shocked us with humidity, air pollution, diversity, people, colors, smell, orchids. It was easy to walk, take tuc-tuc, taxi, skytrain or boats on amazing river of Chao Phraya.
